Any one have any details on how exactly to do this?

I did it and like it. Since we have a 'pull open' and 'pull closed' throttle cable, the springs just make my wrist ache (there are at least 3). The one you want is between throttle bodies 2 & 3, and the tang is pretty easy to see. When I did mine, it just spun around, loose. I've read some have tied the tang with safety wire or a cable tie, so they could get to, and reattach it if they wanted.

Do it you'll not regret it. It's real easy, prop the tank up and look at it, it soon becomes evident what you're to do. JB

The spring weakens with time and after about a year is fine the way it is
This is only true of the French detuned engines, where the oversized spring is mandatory by law for the first 12 months of operation.

I'd like to do this too... after 9 months and 6k miles with a lot of stop and go, my wrist still bothers me. Anyone have a pic. of the notorious middle throttle spring?

I think the French spec. bike springs disconnect themselves and pop up a little white flag when the temps. get high. :D

Yessir, southern

Gimme a few moments to scare it up.

Yup. The bike then automatically reverses with hazard lights blinking and burns an American flag.

:hyper:

Here's the main throttle return spring.

Once you lift up the tank you'll know what to do. One end of the spring is secured to a metal tang which you really can't see here.

I followed the tip I read on the EZ Board and hooked it up with a stainless steel loop, let it unwind a bit by yielding a couple of inches and then wound the SS "lasso" around the gas cables. In case I'd ever want to reattach it, it'd be a quick job.

Don't let the spring unwind free or you'll never catch it again, short of taking the throttle-body assy. apart.

Stef

PS: To obtain a French-type detuned motor, let go of the spring and stuff some old rags into the throttle bodies.
