I can get over the passes from Oregon to California with just the F150 4x4 "traction device". I was going to play it safe and go down I-5 to I-80 East. Do I need to carry chains over the Sierras? Thanks in advance.

Might wanna have them available. There ia supposed to be a storm moving into the Sierras tonight with snow levels at about the 5K foot range. Most of the time 4X4 is ok as along as you have snow tread tires on all four wheels, but it is advisable to carry the chains anyway.

Thanks. I have deep tread new tires all the way around. I'll try to buy some chains, but not sure I can get the right size on short notice... gotta try I guess.

Marty, there is light snow right now (Friday morning). It's supposed to be clear over the weekend and snow on Monday.

You can always call 1-800-427-7623 for the latest road info from CalTrans. There is road construction every night from midnight -0700 during the week.

Here is the current road info, 0420 on Friday:

**FOR EASTBOUND TRAFFIC:

CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW

TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM TRUCKEE (NEVADA CO) TO THE NEVADA STATE LINE .

**FOR WESTBOUND TRAFFIC:

CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW

TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS FROM TRUCKEE (NEVADA CO) TO THE NEVADA STATE LINE
