Excellent article. Yup, toll-roads are a "double dipping" state-sponsored, privatized monopoly...and we'll see more of them.

Here in Southern California the folks with a few extra bucks zip along the uncrowded, transponder-enabled 91 ExpressLanes (toll range: $.50 - $5, depending on time of day) while the not-so-fortunates slog slowly along in the "plebeian scum" lanes to the right.

By the way, motorcycles without the transponder can't use the ExpressLanes. (I grab mine from the car and pop it in the saddlebag.)

To clarify: Under the 'Three Ride Free' amendment, motorcycles ride 'free', but still must carry a transponder. Stupid logic, but the 'rule' nonetheless.

From the 'Toll Policy' section of the 91 website:

To take advantage of the Three-Ride-Free and 50% discounts, carpoolers are also required to use FasTrak transponders.
The Three-Ride-Free and 50% discounts also apply for commuters with transponders who:

• drive a motorcycle or a zero-emission vehicle,

• or have a DMV-issued disabled veteran or disabled person license plate.

Hate friggin toll roads...had to live with them in IL and deal with them in VA when driving through.

Here in KY they just killed the last toll road like3 years ago.

I know when I was a kid, they used to give tickets to you in OH if your time stamp indicated you were speeing between booths and the time stamp gave you away...remember my dad getting a stern warning once in the old Starsky & Hutch Grand Torino once

:)

I hate toll roads also! :angry2:

I drive them on a regular basis with my job, And they are soaking the trucking industry.

take new jersey as an example...

The betsy ross bridge on hwy 90 costs us 22.50, While a car can pass for only $5 (i think).

Chicago tolls are $4.00 during peak times, And $3.00 for non peak times.

The indiana toll road costs $25.00

The ohio turnpike costs $25

The pennsylvania turnpike costs $76.00 to the valley Forge exit

I can go on, But my question is, Why are we paying for roads that are already paid for? I mean the attendants have to be paid, ect. This is just insane! But yet we pay an inflated amount of hwy road taxes and still have to pay the premiums of the toll roads.

Did i mention that i hate ******* toll roads????? :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: :angry2: :angry2:
