High up in the courts of heaven today

A little dog angel waits;

With the other angels he will not play,

But he sits alone at the gates.

For I know my master will come, says he,

And when he comes he will call for me.

The other angels pass him by

As they hurry towards the throne,

And he watches them with a wistful eye

As he sits at the gates alone.

But I know if I just wait patiently

That someday my master will call for me.

And his master, down on the earth below,

As he sits in his easy chair,

Forgets sometimes, and whispers low

To the dog, who is not there.

And the little dog angel cocks his ears,

And dreams that his master's voice he hears.

And when at last his master waits

Outside in the dark and cold,

For the hand of death to open the door,

That leads to those courts of gold,

He will hear a sound through the gathering dark,

A little dog angel's bark.

Dogs... they are the greatest companion ever.

Whenever I arrive home late, the wife may not be pleased,

but the dog is always glad to see me!

Sorry to hear that. We lost two Goldens to cancer. One at 7 and the other at 4. I had to break it to the kids too. Tough.

Thanks Don. 2 weeks ago we put down our yellow Lab of 13.5 years. Hardest thing I've ever done and we continue to struggle with the empty house. :( Slowly getting easier but it will take ahwile.

Yes it sucks...

Knowing Finn was close to his to the end with comfort of life we had an opportunity to bring in a new Puppy (another Golden). I was torn with bringing the pup into the home before saying our goodbyes to Finn. But having the pup around would also help redirect the lose.

I picked "Bogey" up friday. Finn's not thrilled with the engergic pup, but has not shown any aggression toward him either. he just kind of looks at me with the "please get this puppy away from me" stare.

Here's Bogey

Our Beautiful and Beloved "Bear" passed away on Wednesday, June 27 while We Stanley Boys were attending NAFO 2012 in Castlegar, BC, Canada. He died in the arms of his many Friends at PetsHotel in Mesa, AZ; where he'd been boarded for years whenever Son Seth and I went out on our motorcycling adventures worldwide. We and my Girlfriend Donna had Bear's Love for twelve years; and we're still crying each and every day over his loss, I know it will get better - but I just don't know when! RIP Bear Boy!!!

That sucks... I am dreading that final drive over to the vet. At the same time I need to be strong and not selfish to ensure my Boy is not suffering because I do not want to let go.

Wow, you're killing me.

Grew up with a golden retriever. When I came home (a little too) late when I was young, her tail thumping on the kitchen floor in the dark would wake Mom and/or Dad up. Busted!

If I was in a good mood (OK, a little tipsy), I would end up laying on the floor with her, while she tried to roll all over me.

I remember the day I was leaving home for good, to start my first real job, out of town, the next morning. Said goodbye to mom and dad, and walked out to my car. There she was, sitting on the grass right next to my car, giving me the saddest look I've ever seen. Had to look away as I drove off......

I visited mom and dad's when she was home alone and nearing the end. She couldn't get up very well, but laid there with me, her tail going full speed. I laid there with her, crying like a baby. Sweetest animal I've ever known.

Good luck.
