don't ask me how I know this... although if you've read today's posts, you already know.

I know nothing about them. I thought the built-in GPS on my blackberry was uber-cool, lol

the word on the street (or rather, in dark back alley-ways) is that the Zumo 550 is soon going to be obsolete and replaced by something much cooler and worth waiting for.

There. I've already said too much. You didn't hear it from me.

I heard the same thing about the Gen II bikes...

From Garmin or someone else?
Asking me to publicly post that someone at Garmin told me not to buy their product is... , it's something, anyway ;)

So as I alluded to, I can say no more. I might be full of crap, for all you know. Did I mention I work for tomtom? There. That gets me off the hook

muuhuhhuuuhuuuuhaahaaaahaaaaaaa....

When are you going to release the iPhone app for Tomtom?
crap, OK, before this goes too far off the rails

I have dealings with Garmin. While speaking with my contact early today, we chatted about bike GPSes. Thanks to my guy over there, I can get employee pricing on anything Garmin makes... he's a great guy. Later in the day, he contacted me, suggesting that while the 550 is a great unit, things are in the works and if I CAN wait for next years' release, "I'd be happy". I've represented this as accurately and as non-misleading as I can.

So.... I'm jess sayin that Garmin has something cool in the mill for next year, if waiting is an option. If not, the 550 is a great unit, judging by your numerous favorable comments.

Sorry for the ambiguity but I obviously can't 'leak' any kind of info resulting from my work activities!

I'll be buying one in the next couple of months...
I'll wait until the new wiz-bang-zoom gadget comes out, the 550's drop in price, and then snag one. :coolsmiley02:

I did the same thing a few years back on a Panasonic 58" plasma flat panel TV. Saved about $800 just by waiting a few months.

Yea, You'll be happy because with your employee pricing you'll be able to afford it...while

the rest of us regular Joe's drool over it and curse the price tag while hanging on to our

2610s and 2730s.

He's not an employee, he simply knows some folks who are connected.

See, this always happens. the canadians show up, trying to help by sharing what they know, and things go off the rails almost immediately... LOL

Les - remember, we're in this quagmire together, so us Canadians need to stick together! If ther eends up being a Canadian discount, so much the better! ;) *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

I'm good to wait - just bought a 255WT and a ziploc baggie... :)

And yes, "waiting" is the key. There will always be someting "better and cooler". In 10 years most of the electronic stuff now will likely be obsolete and .....laughable.

We all waited for the 660 to debut and were a bit disapointed that it did not surpass the 550. Now you say they finally got something better coming out. Cool. But I can't keep waiting and I can't afford to just trash my 3 year old 550 just to buy better and cooler. Not at the prices these things cost.

My cell phone has a GPS, can contact folks around the planet, can go "online" and surf, has expandable memory, it plays MP3's , has a radio and even has a 3 mp camera..... all for about 100 bucks.

Come out with a GPS for my bike that does all that with a large readable screen for even twice that price and I'll consider the upgrade.
