Don't see Battery Voltage displayed on my FJR.

Yes I NEVER own an 04 FJR untill now. And have no manual on it.

I was wondering if there is anyway to display the Voltage from the insterment pannel?

And if so;Will it tell me the engine charging or battery voltage?

This is the problem; Since I recieved it its just sitting in my garage.

I go out once a week and start it. I run it untill its warmed up and hope its charging the battery?

The reason I can't ride it is a Work related injury. Which is taking me FOREVER to get better.

If I charge the battery with a Charger. I think I would need to disconect the Battery from the bike.

Or it might fry the bike? If you disconect the battery will it harm anything? Reset anything/computer?

There is no voltage meter for the display. Get yourself a Battery Tender and that will keep your battery in the proper state reguardless of how often you decide to run the bike.

Yes but how do you know if your bike when running is charging the battery?

Enter the diagnostic mode, diAG:09 will display battery voltage. Because the key is on there is some slight loading of the electrical system causing the battery voltage to read slightly lower than what it would actually be with the key off.

Starting the engine and letting it idle is hard on everything and may not recharge all the current that was used to start the engine in the first place. IMO, I would say not to do that and use a battery tender or equivalent.

The only way to tell if the battery is being charged is to use a current meter or volt meter. When running the engine at idle the charging system is only outputting a small amount of charging current. You would really like to have the engine running 3k rpm or more to get good charging and this is best done my riding it. If you can't ride it use a charger.

I will be getting a Battery tender hook up.

You could also add a Datel Volt meter. Not that expensive, and if connected directly to the battery, you will get an accurate reading all the time.

Datel is the preferred voltage meter around here. If you search for it on the forum you'll even find where someone installed one inside one of his mirrors, clearing a small area of reflective material to see the voltage through the mirror lens.

lol Even after reading the manual it wasn't clear to me that the X50 would display voltage. Someone on the forum posted that it would, so I gave it a try and have been using it that way for a couple years. I even have the X50 in my Jeep set up to display voltage even though the Jeep has a volt meter in the dash.

My Escort 9500i displays voltage too. (Nothin like a $500 voltmeter, eh?).

By the way, my FJR won't display barometric pressure..... help?!?! :lol:

How do you program a 8500 x50 to display voltage? I don't remember see that in the manual. Does the detector still detect while in "voltage mode"?

My Garmin 378 GPS receiver also will display voltage... one of the few things I like about the 378, other than the fact that it will also display Nexrad radar from XM radio.
