Had a great weekend riding despite the Rain. They've dropped the speed limit on Deals Gap to 30mph , had 2 police and they were very active.

They are using laser speed guns , a buddy got nailed for ...32mph .. ridiculous. Most of the locals wait till they see both cars, then pick up the pace as the road is still closed at the lake end.

Hwy 28 was sublime, pavement much improved and no traffic.

30, and strict enforcement !?!?! That sucketh. Didn't see a single LEO when I was there a year and a half ago. Everyone was riding as fast as they could, and still be able to make the curves.

Two of the locals were hanging at the overlook, we asked them if it lets up during the week .. apparently not.

Some do communicate with other riders via blue tooth headsets to give the all clear. Even my friend on stock cans with is CBR 929 in stealth mode got nabbed .. I guess they've had enough .

Since it's closed at the lake , they could just make it a 1 way toll , open up both lanes and meter the traffic .. until August . Generate revenue and no animosity . But hey , that's logical

I did one "slow" pass, well slow to me and me and a buddy got ticket for 45 or so and I was coming down a hill with a closed throttle in 2nd trying to remember where those troopers are.... Hey there they are waving at me.. I feel like I'm sitting still below 40 so riding it 30 is hard for me. I hate riding my brakes. You think its all clear and then the troopers move or come back from lunch. I don't ride it enough to learn the curves and pull outs exactly. I failed to notice my trip meter when passing the cops last time and lost track of where they were. If you know where the cops are its a fun day, forget one time and $$$.

I'll stop some times at the store but, I'm done riding the actual dragon. Its the only place I've ever recieved a ticket and I've ridden most of the US. I think of the thousands of miles I've done on the 45 to 35 mph Blue Ridge Park Way and the Cherohala without even a warning and wonder how much longer till those turn into 129. North GA has gone to 30 mph on some great roads too, its spreading.

I want to move out West! Maybe Utah? Anybody got a job for me out there to pay my bills? :telephone:

We were staying up at BRMC Memorial Day and had a rider with us that had never been up there before, so we decided to go...big mistake. It was crowded beyond belief. It started raining just after we left the store. We didn't see a Leo, but were told Tn Leos were still at it, sticktly enforcing the speed limit, and cross overs(which is definitely a good thing). With the rain and crowd, the pace was pretty stagnant, so I guess they left. If you like doing more than 30, it's not what it used to be up there. We like riding somewhat aggressively, although within reason and safely, but that's not gonna happen anymore. For the cruiser cpls and those that just like taking it easy, it's still a good ride though. I think Wayah Rd, and 215 are some of my favs up there. And if you like the twisties without all the patroling, 151, although shorter, is a great ride.

We left Western Mass on Sunday morning. I was at the Dragon on Tuesday 6/8 around 2:30pm. Bright sunny day, no police presence, followed no one all the way up, saw only 5 or 6 riders on their way down. On the way down I got behind a big Victory for a short stretch but he waved me by. All in all it was an awesome experience scaping pegs on both side with the bike loaded up for camping and touring.

By the way, I can't say enough good things about Moe at the Kickstand Lodge. Camping the first night and getting one of the tiny cabins the next was a highlight of the trip.

I was there around the same time! Had a great run, traffic was fairly light, and weather was hot but nice.
