Hello everyone, I’m looking for dual sport tire recommendations.

I know some of you ride dual sports as well.

I have a Honda 84 XL350R and I ride it mostly on the street but I love to go into the mountains and ride on the trails..

I’m running cheap 50/50s now and they are rough on the road. I would like a smoother ride getting to the trails, but I would like good grip off road. I know, I want it all.

Do the higher end 50/50s handle better on the road or would better street oriented tires handle well on the dirt. Any recommendations from someone with more experience than I have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Steve

Dunlop D606 or Pirelli MT-21 are great dirt and ok street.

I don't understand how the 50/50's could be rough? I bet you need them balanced.

I think your right on the balance of the tires, that and the tires are shot. They were never real smooth though, but that’s compared to street tires.

I like the Pirelli MT21’s they look like they would be better at the edge of the tire on the road.

If they handle well on the dirt, that’s what I’m looking for.

Thanks

Welcome from a native Visalian! Regarding D/S tires, Uber's recommendations are good (I've had a set or two of Dunlops). Personally I've been using Maxxis M-6006-1 for all of our DRZ's and have been very happy with their manners, both off and on road. Not too noisy, decent lean angle on the pavement and acceptable bite in the dirt.

If you're looking for Adventure bike style tires, a good place to look is here. https://www.advrider.com/forums/

Thank you for the info CAJW, and hello back. Thank you Uberkul also for your input. I would like the Dunlops for the trails but for me half the fun is getting there. There is about 20 to 45 miles of twisty fun between me and the dirt.

I would also have to say I am a bit more aggressive on the road than off.

I just stuck Bstone Trail Wings on my DR. No chance of ever seeing 50% dirt and the noise/wear on the road with my 606s was ridiculous.

Like 'CAJW', I currently run Maxxis 6006 (for me, for their off-road bias to 50-50).

But, on previous d-s bikes, I found that the original (old-style) Avon Gripsters worked well in a 50-50 environment with very good road manners.
