I haven't ridden the old '98 VFR800Fi in, what... maybe a year? Thing just sits there glowing at me in the dim garage light as I walk past it to the two blue bikes...

When my son comes home from college he sometimes rides it. He loves the thing. He and his GF rode it last summer on our week long vacation ride south to West Virginia. After returning, and realizing that the Viffer isn't a great 2-up bike even for young folks, I bought a 2001 Triumph Trophy that the "kids" could use on our future summer vacation tours. I then stripped off the Givi bag setup I had for the Honda and sold off the bits on the VFR Forum. So now it's strictly a day rider.

The thing has only ~15k miles on it because I bought my FJR not long after the VFR. THe FJR and Triumph get the majority of the ride time since they are so damn comfy and convenient, what with the side bags and all the 'lectronic doodads.

But this afternoon the red VFR was calling me to come out and play.

It was just an hour's ride around some of the twistier roads around Lake Massebesic, but damn... that bike hauls ass!! :yahoo: I forgot how relatively nimble and quick it is compared to it's porky blue stable mates.

Yeah, with only .8 liters of displacement you do have to wick it up (like a sport bike) to get into the fun zone. But holy smokes does that thing get up to speed in a hurry then, especially when 1-up. I seriously think it would give the FJR1300 a run for the money, even in the straights. In the curves it would blow it away. And the Pirelli Diablo Supersport tires I've got on it stick like friggen glue, not that I ever tested their limits that much on our frost damaged roads.

I had recently thought about selling the bike off to fund my new found desire to get dirty (again) and go dual sporting . Well, I guess that is out now. I'll just have to come up with the DS bike cash some other way, 'cause this ole' V4 is staying put. ;)

What a sweet machine.

I dreaded opening this thread as I just KNEW you were going to post a pic of that beautiful specimen and heaven forbid, even hint at the possibility of selling it. Hang on to it, nice ones like that are hard to come by. Glad you got it out for some exercise and sounds like the grin meter still gets pegged on that bike.

The only bikes bigger than 150cc allowed on Bermuda's streets:

I was riding a bus late one afternoon and we were passed by a couple of these, and those guys were riding them!! Pegs sparking both directions until they disappeared over the hill.

Haha!! Yes, the grin generator still works on that old one. Somehow I knew you'd check in on this thread. ;)

Keep looking. There are still a bunch of 5th gens out there and they are downright cheap!!

When I was investigating how much I could ask for mine I came up with a top number of ~$3500, and that would only be because mine is fairly pristine w/ only 15k miles. Which is another reason it'll stay in my garage. It's worth more to me than that!

PS - Have seen that the VFR was used by police in Japan also. It's a fairly small bike, so it wouldn't work so well with our "American Sized" constables. ;)
