Earbud speakers/mic integration on a Starcom

After searching and reading I can't find anything that talks specifically about using custom earbud speakers with a Starcom. Right now I have helmet speakers with a mic in a full face Shoei RF-1000 but the wind and road noise is beginning to bother me so I would like to use earbud speakers instead for some sort of hearing protection and still be able to keep the mic for communicating with Michelle. The current setup has a five pin connector which I plug into a bulkhead fitting on the left front panel that I would like to continue using. I can't figure out how to integrate the mic and earbuds though. I have the RD, XM, and GPS hooked up through the Starcom if that matters. Anybody else have the setup I'm looking for? Am I going to be dissecting and soldering cables?

Axe, my experience with the Starcom headphone jack system has been great. I struggled with the helmet speakers for quite a while until Jeff turned me onto the earbud system.

A set of custom earbuds, and all my problems with ambient noise corrected. However, just make sure you have the volume turned down the first time you turn on the music -DAMHIK. On long rides I'll use one earbud with a foam plug in the other ear - this allows me to switch the earbuds back and forth every 8 to 12 hours or so.

I run my 2730 output at 20% with the custom earbuds - too loud if I don't tweak it way down. If I use ER6's, I have to increase the output to 50% or so.

Those look just like the ones I have but mine were only $165.00. Try Ear-ific Molds Tim McCarty at Ear-rific web site Click on the Contact area and give him a call .He is at alot of the motorcycle shows. Thats where I had mine made. You can get the ear molds done locally and send the molds to him to have the sound molded in.

Glad this discussion is current. I use earplugs daily, but am ready to add audio to the bike, and this will be very helpful.

The Big Ears look a lot like my Westones. I paid $175 and that included the audiologist charge for the ear molds. On a recent trip, one wire went bad. I UPSed them, they fixed them and forwarded them to a stop on the way-good service. Ian, Iowa

Do you remember which model Westones you got? There happens to be a dealer for them about 10 miles from me so it certainly would be convenient to get them there. How is the audio quality on them?
