Just got a room in a "rustic cabin" at Old Faithful for $69 for Friday May 11. The road in opens that same day. In a typical winter you either couldn't or wouldn't want to go in there this early on a bike, but forecast says sunny with a high of 45 and low of 19. I hope my 4 year old battery kicks over the next morning!

Then off to explore the park a little and head up into MT somewhere the following night.

Good luck with the weather! I hit snow in Yellostone at the end of the first week in July the year before last. Couldn't take the Beartooth after leaving the park because it was closed due to snow and freezing rain. Checked the weather report a few days later and it was in the 70's.

Good Luck on your trip!! "High of 45 and a low of 19", sounds absolutely balmy. Might wanna take a battery tender or a tow rope for the morning start attempt. :p

Strange year for snow in many parts of the West. It was odd for us spending New Years Day at Lake Alpine on the bike, which is normally under many feet of snow. Enjoy the moving road blocks (Bison) in Yellowstone!

Looking forward to the ride report. Have a great trip!

My first visit to Yellowstone was early, but not quite this early. I was there about May 18 to 20 in '06 (or maybe '07). The weather was beautiful for the first couple days--I even had the skin on my sunburned nose start to peel, but then it rained and got cold the last day. Then it got WAY cold as I booked south as fast as I could, looking for heat. Finally found some in Southern Utah.

But--man, it was nice having Yellowstone all to myself! There was NO traffic, anywhere. When I went out to watch Old Faithful erupt, right at lunchtime, I think there were three other people out there watching it with me. Traffic enforcement was on a long break, too, and let me tell you, Yellowstone is a FUN place to ride if you don't have to stick to that damn 35 mph! Good luck and have fun.

Mike: that sounds really encouraging. Also, if you've ever checked rates for in-the-park lodging, in the high season the prices are outrageous, hence my first time ever staying in the park on a ride.

I have to use a "communal shower" but the reservation assistant said all the other rooms are booked by a support group for college cheerleaders suffering from nymphomania, so it could be the highlight of the trip....(ok, I made that part up).... :p

It probably will be since they're all male. :D

Those communal showers are nice--behind the Yellowstone Lodge somewhere IIRC. I've used them when camping there too. We didn't have the nymphomaniacs then, though.

Sorry--the affliction is gender-specific. See https://www.thefreedi...om/nymphomaniac

In men it's called "being male"...
Well, since you say it's gender specific, those male cheerleaders couldn't have it then could they? :D

Sounds like a great ride into Yellowstone. Have a great time...and stay away from those male cheerleaders.
