Actually, if you think about, he unintentionally got some of us aware of of file sizes and download times. I would'nt have thought about dial up times without this thread.
Unintentional Good Karma?
yeah, but despite it all he then goes and changes to the '**** ******* the dog avatar.... might be a Richard Cranium "if" :D

Though I've never met the gentleman

I just took a look at the properties of my simple avatar and it is over 13k. Those of you with the magic software, please do your thing to shrink that file of you can.

Just use paint, select image/strect and skew reduce image by say 50%. Save the file and look at its new size. If not small enough go back in, this time maybe only reduce the now 50% smaller image by say 75% this should just about do it.

Simple

3351 Reduce only 80% as 50% went really small but was plenty...

Hey Geezer, if you do use this as your new avatar just save it from my post and then let me know so I can remove it so it doesn't take up more bandwidth...

<(2854 bytes) no size reduction.

Heck, mine is bigger but I don't want to give up the transparent background. B)

Your posts in my ride report were constructive and answered my questions. It made me decide to plan on riding with you in the future. What better affect can a forum member have than inspire people to ride more? You pictures of Crater Lake are awesome too!

  . . . . . .What did you use?
Sorry Sparky, was working on second post and didn't see the question.

Using Polyview. Not really a image editing solution but the best image organizer and manager I've found over the years. The guy who writes the software has been programming for over 20 years and I believe is one of the original members of the Joint Photographers Expert Group. For a shareware program, he has the best algorithms for jpeg compression I know about and it is very tweakable.

Get it here Polyview Home Page

good stuff.

You know, that's a fair point. Not sure that was motorgods intention, but this might be a case where topic drift served a better purpose. The awareness of image formats, filesize, and multiple ways to save things has gone through the roof.

Poof. Motorgod's kharma is restored. All can rejoice and continue back to their regularly scheduled program.

I used this avatar. Thanks for changing it for me.
