I asked this seller to consider leaving me feedback based on my immediate and dependable payment, and this isn't the first time I've dealt with these type of assholes who hold buyers over the feedback barrel, quick to retaliate for any negative comments.

I take leaving feedback very seriously and believe strongly that there is many aspects to my experience with a buyer, and prompt payment is only one
That's rich!

What other aspects do you expect to experience with me besides getting my money?

My eBay feedback policy: As a seller, I give feedback based on payment and expect some based on the buyer's satisfaction. As a buyer, I expect feedback based on my quick and dependable payment, then give appropriate feedback to the seller once the item is received in advertised condition.

So, I guess this is what they call a "Mexican standoff". Not to worry, you're not the first seller I've dealt with to refuse feedback before you safely got some. Seems to be a bit of a theme these days....
How am I out to lunch here?

Mr. 100% positive

The bitch is when you give good feedback to a buyer, based on prompt payment and good communication, then they get all whiny about what they receive and start claiming it's not as described, want you to deal with damage during shipping that was out of your control, etc.

I've dealt with the type of seller you're talking about too. Annoying as hell, but the way eBay is set up, it's hard to counter bad feedback. When I sell, I always tell people to talk to me first if they are anything but satisfied with what they receive, and STILL I've had some pretty lame comments, though no negative feedback.

You get burned once, and I can see copping the attitude of waiting to give feedback. Don't agree with it, but can understand.

I'm with ya, Toe. I wish we could leave feedback on regular, non-eBay transactions. As the customer service in this country swirls the drain, it would be nice to reward those that still provide it.

Didn't they change the feedback system so that a buyer leaving bad feedback can't be flamed by a seller? I think they did because of that reason. They give buyers more rights for honesty without getting hammered for no reason. I guess then it becomes a "beat you to it" scenario. I'd leave him bad feedback just for trying to abuse the system....if he got prompt payment and good communication, that's all he can rate you on....he just doesn't want to give away his upper hand....BUT, I believe ebay took it away from him if you leave bad feedback first anyway.

Check out this ebay info on feedback extortion (what he's doing without saying it) https://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/feedback-extortion.html

Buyers are not allowed to threaten sellers with negative Feedback, neutral Feedback, or low detailed seller ratings in order to receive goods or services not included in the original listing.

Sellers may not require buyers to leave specific Feedback or detailed seller ratings. Sellers also can’t demand that buyers withdraw existing Feedback or detailed seller ratings. This applies to all Feedback activity, whether it happened before, during, or after delivery of goods or services described in the original listing.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

Feedback rating and/or comment removal

A buyer's feedback shouldn't start with "This isn't what I ordered!" or "This thing is not what was listed, it's a piece of crap!" It's the buyer's responsibility to resolve those sorts of things before leaving feedback, and his feedback should include the satisfactory (or not) resolution of the problem. A seller's feedback has nothing to do with any of that. When paid, their transaction is complete. Did you pay fast, or did you fall off the face of the earth and leave him hanging. Those are what his feedback reflects.

Any other problems with the transaction process, such as unsettled disputes over the item, or feedback extortion, should be reported to eBay. Enough of those against a seller is more effective than a feedback war, which can reflect both ways.

People are just rude.

I no longer ask for feedback. Some are jerks. I get feedback great, I don't, then I don't.

With the new policy that a seller can not give a buyer negative feedback, many sellers no longer leave feedback until the buyer does.

I agree with you that "people are just rude." But I thought a seller could still give negative feedback?

I've been dealing on eBay for a number of years. I've always bought, never yet sold, so, admittedly, I'm only looking at one point of view. When considering whether to bid, I check the seller's negatives and neutrals (if any) to see his reaction to them. That reaction (or lack) tells me more about the seller than all the positives on eBay. I try not to deal with rookies (2 dozen or less feedbacks). When I win an auction, I pay immediately, and ALWAYS with PayPal. I send a note with the payment informing the seller that feedback will be left upon delivery of the item. If the item isn't what I expected, I go to the auction FIRST to make sure I didn't read it wrong. If I screwed up, I give the seller a positive and eat the expense. If he screwed up, I e mail him through eBay informing him of his mistake and what I expect to make it right. I give the seller 1-2 weeks to get back to me (in case he's on vacation or in the hospital). The vast majority of sellers, once they realize they screwed up, do what is necessary to right the situation. Those sellers get a positive from me also. The only ones I've given negatives to were four that made me open PayPal disputes/claims (all of which I won). One got a neutral for selling me an item he didn't have, then making me wait an unreasonable time while he ordered and sent it. This is out of 475 transactions (at last count).
