No one that I know of. It's not quite a "deal" in the FJR community like in the tuner word.

There are a lot of people using the different versions of the Power Commander. A few of them have even gone so far as dyno their mods instead of just guess.

The tuner community had things like the CobbAp as well as open-source software to flash the ECU. Without the body of work they have done, a really good relationship with a dyno owner would be a good first step.

No FJRs that I ever recall...Quite a few threads about it on the Super Tenere forum, all positive reviews from what I've read.

IF and it's a big if, my FJR needed help in that regard, I'd seriously consider it verses an add-on PCV based on the STen reviews.

YMMV

Has anybody used ecunleashed.com to flash their ECU?Mike
I don't think ecunleashed has tried to flash an FJR1300. Their list of "Performance Reflash (taken from their relevant page)":

2005-09 Yamaha FJR1300

  • .....

ECU Tune File – Performance Reflash :

2005-09Yamaha FJR1300 Mitsubishi-Yamaha

Motorcycle Options and Improvements

Yamaha

* 6-15 % Power Increased

* Remove Factory Throttle Restrictions

* Increased Idle

* Increased Rev Limit

* Remove Speed Limiters

* Reduce Excessive Engine Braking/Improved Deceleration

* Improved Throttle Control & Reaction

* Remove Injector Shut-Off on Deceleration

* Eliminate Factory “Error codes” (ex. exhaust valve, steering damper)

* Improved Fuel Maps

* Improved Ignition Maps

* Remove Closed Loop Routine For Use of AutoTune Air/Fuel Modules

* Velocity Stack Switching Adjustment (Variable Stacks Only)

* Custom Modification Accommodations (Exhaust, tuning, Internal Engine)

* Race Fuel Mapping Accommodations

My questions: "2005-09"? Strange year range.

What "Factory Throttle Restrictions"?

How do they "Increase Idle"?

What "Speed Limiters"?

What "Factory 'Error codes' (ex. exhaust valve, steering damper)"?

So they've taken a standard list of possibilities without regard for the vehicle they are talking about.

And in any case, what's a "2005-09Yamaha FJR1300 Mitsubishi-Yamaha" (unless Mitsubishi make the ECU??)?

Since Yamaha have replaced whole ECUs during recalls rather than "Re-Flash" them, I find it hard to believe it's even possible to do a re-flash.

I just had my wifes GSXR600 track bikes ECU flashed. A bit more HP but the main thing was increased redline by 750rpm. I have a PCV on my FJR. I prefer that to the flashing because it has two program settings. I spent some time on the dyno with it and programmed one channel for max performance and the other channel for max fuel economy. They are wired to the emergency flasher switch so depending on if I am in twisties or on the highway, which setting I used. I prefer that option much more than gaining extra RPM at redline. YMMV

Interesting stuff. I would have to wonder how much it would affect fuel economy (if it is even possible to do it - ROM vs PROM). I don't think I would be willing to be the first one to try it and I wouldn't be willing to sacrifice our reasonably good stock mileage (and maybe our excellent engine longevity) for a marginal performance improvement.

None of it's possible to do right without Dyno time. Increasing redline would seem a fools errand because we know power peaks before the current red line. Tuners have tried a lot of physical mods to the FJR and come back with little real gain. Increased HP often comes at the loss of low end response. The real advantage of any effort (beyond what Yamaha was able to do) is to smooth out the curves of HP and Tq to get rid of the erratic spikes and dips that are the result of EPA compliance.

Again, lots of dyno time to do it right. If you're not willing to commit to that part of it, then you're chasing ghosts.

Tuning is seldom about MPG. It's usually a performance mod and increases in HP mean pushing more air and fuel through the pump we call an engine. More HP usually means more fuel. In the end, it's usually the realm of the sport bikers where they chase max numbers at the cost of MPG and streetability. There are exceptions to this though when you find a shop that will work with you to improve the curves and not focus on bench-race-bragging-top-numbers.

The Tenere' guys seem to swear by it. But, it doesn't seem to be a matter of tuning for max power. More about getting rid of factory silliness. eg; The power limitations in 1st and second gear. Speaking of factory silliness: I wonder if they could do something about our jive-ass cruise control limitation. Hmmm.......
