My 08 is sick. I took it to my local dealer for its recalls when I bought it a couple of years ago and even though the S4 spider was burnt Yamaha HQ wouldn't let them replace the loom because the bike had been owned by the police. It was not a traffic bike, the only extra wiring on it was for a radio, no extra relays or anything else. They did install the little recall loom by cutting off the S4 connector and soldering it in. Anyways, needless to say issues have arisen requiring the loom to be replaced. I have done this but I've hit a snag. I bought a new loom off ebay and I installed it. Everything matched up perfectly until I got up around the ignition area. I discovered I had a USA loom with no immobilizer plug, I'm in Ireland. This means (I think) that my ECU will not let the bike start if the immobilizer is disconnected? Anyone know a way around this?

I was thinking of swapping my ECU for a USA one as I can get an ignition switch to suit easily enough. However the only ones I see for sale are pre-08. I know there were issues with the ECUs before 08 and that's probably why there are loads of 06 and 07 ECUs for sale. Are there part numbers for the ECUs that replaced the faulty ones? Would this idea work? I'm going to finish off buttoning it up and I'll try it but I'm sure it won't fire.

Any advice appreciated.

My poor Bonnie is being overworked and doesn't like the thought of winter, too much chrome!

I bought my FJR in a shop in Lucan (It does not exist anymore). It had a metaalarm that I did remove a couple of years back. It this similar to what you are describing? It was not difficult at all. All you have to do is jump two wires. The rest can go in the bin!

I cant remember where i got the information from (what to jump etc) but I can dig in and see if I can find it again.

Nope, try and find an 08 USA ECU or latter.

Those of us in Australia had to provide the red master key when Yamaha swapped out the ECU for their Tech Service Bulletin.

Had to code the new ECU into the immobiliser, which was a bummer for those without the master key.
