Im in the market to pick up a set of tires for my trip out west in august. I found a good deal on some road 3s but was considering other brands. The only reason I ask is I need something economical(found the roads for $260). My trip will be around 7k miles so I need something that will make the distance. I dont want to have to change tires along the the way,

I think some found the thread life on the PR3s a bit wanting. As of last week T30 EVO GT front + PR4 GT rear = $285 from Jake Wilson.

You would likely get 7,000 easy miles out of a set of Continental Conti-motion tires. No chance if you are abusing them even a little. I found them to be surprisingly good for the (very) low cost but others have found them to be awful in terms of cupping early in life. I bought one set to finish off a riding season and wasn't expecting much from them - was pleasantly surprised. Do you feel lucky?

Still running PR2's into the second season with plenty of tread left. They have come down in price now with the other later versions. You can't beat them IMO.

Dave

If you want the most tire for the least amount of money

you can't beat PR2s, lowest cost per mile of any tire combo.

Factor in cost of mounting and it's a no-brainer.

FWIW, I've purchased tires while on a trip so many times

in the past I no longer worry about it. If my tires won't

go the distance I just get them replaced during a layover.

PR2 Rear, but not the front. They drive like a truck after 1500 miles. So put a Bridgestone T30 on that front...nice uniform profile and wear evenly.

This is a funny ole world. I think the Bridgestone is a horrible tire and that the PR2 up front is a great choice. Opinions... everyone has them, but mine are special.

I've been finding the best prices at americanmototire.com, they are based in GA too.

Metzeler Z8 has given me the best distance - 8k - which is exceptional considering I get 4k out of PR2 rears...

Wayne

I have come to respect the Metler Z8, single compound and bad ass grip until it's just bald. They don't fade or blister but are known to be a PIA to mount, The dang things are stiff off the wheel but give great feedback and feel when installed.

Special you say, it is rumored that you fart little puffs of Unicorn Dust from time to time as well, that is special.

Avon GUARANTEES their tires to last 15,000 miles!

The Continental is probably the best low cost option. Personally, I am liking the Michelin PR2 rear with the Bridgestone T30 GT front. Never liked the PR2 front after the first couple of thousand miles.

Sorry John but Avons suck. IMHO

PR2 will do nicely and will last your trip unless you ride as fast as Wayne.

Been through at least 20 sets between 4 different bikes and when riding at a civil pace they hold up quite well.

I just pulled my first set of Conti-Motions off the bike. I got just under 8500 miles with the rear just getting close to cord (went away fast). I paid about $150 for the set off of Amazon, I believe. Not too bad, but I went back to PR3s for $260 shipped. First two sets of PR3s I got over 16K miles. And I didn't care for the Conti's feel, and did not trust them in the wet.

YRMV.

Cheap wasnt supposed to be in my title. The thread was moved and title changed. I just wanted something reasonable but mainly wanted life and some decent handling while im in the mountains. $250-300. I should be able to get most tires for that.

I got 15k on my last set of Bridgestone GT T30s. Cost me 240 delivered from Jake Wilson and another 42 for mounting and balancing at a local motorcycle shop.

I just ordered a set of PR2's from rocky mt. ATV for 259 for thew set delivered to da house.
