When I installed a Back Off brake light modulator, and a Kissan self canceling relay on my '05, the hazard lights would no longer work correctly.

Now that I am about ready to farkle up my '08, I plan on installing a Back Off modulator Audiovox CC (I saw the thread on the accessory relay install) and I am wondering if the hazards will still work. I am not going to install the self canceling on this bike. Any opinions/suggestions?

 
The hazard lights use a simple bimetallic strip as a timer. Current runs through, the strip heats, bends slightly to open a set of contacts, cools enough to re-establish the contacts, and the cycle repeats. The current running through needs a path to ground which is normally through a light filament.

The Kissan that you added put a (digital I believe) timer in series with this rudimentary timer.

What you describe is to be expected. The turn signals and hazards share a common power feed. The Kisan turn signal timeout device interrupts the power supply to the turn signals and the hazard flashers. If you turn on the turn signals and allow the Kisan to timeout then the hazards won’t work until you reset the turn signals at the switch. Similarily, the hazards will timeout and stop flashing in the same time the turn signals are set for.

Easy fix is to cut the wire to the hazard switch at the switch and splice it into a hot lead at the fuse panel. With the hazards fed off a separate feed to separate them from the turn signals you can have the Kisan on the turn signals and the hazards working like normal. I actually spliced the hazards into a non-keyed hot feed so they work with the key off or on like a car.

The other option would be to provide a separate power feed for the turn signals but you have to splice in ahead of the turn signal switch on the handlebar. On the Gen1's the hazard switch is right next to the fuse panel so it only takes a short wire to quickly re-feed the hazards which is why I did it that way.
