Been looking at the farkles on all these machines and have decided I'd like to begin assembling an electronic full monty for myself.

What I'd like is some sort of bluetooth setup that would allow an array of electronic things to happen inside my helmet:

1) receive info and xm radio from a gps.

2) receive music from an mp3 source.

3) send and receive 2-way radio of some useful sort.

4) facilitate cell phone communication.

5) allow me to dictate to a voice recorder.

I assume I'd need:

1) a gps

2) iPod

3) some sort of 2-way

4) bluetooth setup that would handle all this.

(I already have a recorder and a bluetooth cell phone.)

Anyone have any ideas on such a melange? Brands? Individual components?

Or is this a sure-fire cluster-*****?

Four points I would suggest as I've been down much of this road:

  • Call Jeff 707 224-9262
  • Bikeeffects.com
  • Tell him you're from the forum
  • Prepare to spend some money

Phicst for accuracy.

And just to clarify, bikeeffects is one of the best vendors out there - if not the best vendor. (and I don't just say that cuz he left me alone in his warehouse one night... ;) )

I don't believe you are going to do all that with a wireless link to the helmet. I have not checked into it but IIFC the Cardo Scala whatever will let you phone, gps and ipod(mono) if you have the proper adapters, but to 2-way, the only way you may be able add that feature is a bluetooth bike-to-bike set-up and that will necessitate all your riding budies having same. I think the most efficient way that I have found and have seen a lot of folks with here is: bluetooth phone linked to bluetooth gps and an intercom such as the Starcom1 to link gps, ipod and two-way. This will still mean you have a cord to the helmet. But as said, you can end up spending a lot of money. I put everything in a tankbag to make wiring simple. Do a google search on the site, because I seem to remember having read this same topic already posted.

Flying Junior,

I have a SmartCom Digital that accomplishes everything on your wish list with great control over signal levels and smart signal fading. There are separate volume levels available for rider and passenger and separation of signals as well. This unit can be mounted under the seat or in a tank bag. I'm using an RKA bag. I am using a wired connection to the Smartcom; but they do have a Bluetooth adapter for it. Perhaps with a Nolan NCom, you could be in business wirelessly.

See my thread on the S plug earphones and you'll be a happy camper. You can also try these folks for communications help.
