Anybody have a good way to establish value??? Kbb and NADA don't do it and my local guy says there isn't a price guide. He wants to sell me a new one and I don't have the bucks without hammering the travel budget so that's out.

What size are you looking for? Have a friend who is selling a used enclosed trailer.
probably 6 or 7 by 12-14. preferably with brakes and a ramp rear door. Let me know
Why do you need brakes? Usually trailers that size aren't designed to carry enough weight to warrant brakes. I have a single axle 12' with the ramp door and side door I tow with my f150. I have had it pretty well loaded and the truck still handles it fine. Look at you state rules on trailers. they might require it. Virginia does, but it is based on GVWR. My trailer is way under that.

A lot of the time I tow with my 55 Ford F100 that has drum brakes. I also like knowing that I will come to a safe straight stop when the **** hits the fan. My 5X9 utility trailer has a 3500 lb axle and brakes. I do like overkill.

Yeah, the stopping ability of the tow vehicle is an important part of the equation!

Around Colorado almost any 6-7 x 12 will bring $24 - 2800.00 especially with ramp door and brakes. Since having two of these I would never go back to an open trailer. I have a tandem axle and they tow so nice you almost forget there behind you.

I have a 6x12 single axle and if I had to do it again would definitely buy a dual axle unit. I've had 2 occasions where a tire blew out and ripped the fender right off the trailer. It's more than a little unsettling. I always carry a spare tire and fortunately no further damage was done but in the future I'd feel much better having 4 wheels back there.

Have you considered renting a trailer? Unless you really foresee using it often it's a lot of bucks to tie up.

For occasional use renting would make sense but the two times I have rented trailers I lost wheel bearings. I would rather own and do my own service work. When not being towed it would make great secure storage.

I just (last week) bought a brand new 6x12 V Nose with rear ramp door for $2195.

What brand was that Wlfman?

I could also make good use of a trailer that size, and that price is much better than what I have been seeing. The ability to use it for temporary storage is a big part of the appeal.

A great place to put all of DCarver's junk, I mean projects.

Ray, have you considered looking at enclosed snowmobile trailers? In your area after this season, they might be available. Only disadvantage is a higher load floor, but most have ramps, some on both ends.

On a single axle like mine I really like the built in- drop down jacks in the back, especially when I remember to use them when loading the Hippo
