Riding to work today the engine stalled crossing an intersection. I was sitting at a 4 way stop, 5 deep on an incline. Stop and go, alternating turns at stop signs. Finally get to go through and it felt like I was starting off in 3rd gear but wasn't and it stalled. Coast across the intersection to a stop and wouldn't start. Cycle the key on and off, full throttle etc. Sucker won't start. Cranks over but no go. Open the tank and could see a little fuel. So i called the guy I am working with and he brought me a gallon of fuel. Poured it in. Cycled the key on and off twice. Cranked it over with throttle wide open and it starts. I was at one bar, not blinking as of yet. Could it be possible that while sitting on the incline the fuel pump might not process the fuel and I ran out of gas? Whats up? Mike in Fremont, Ca.

The bottom of the gas tank is FLAT. It's possible that if the incline was steep enough, the fuel simply sloshed to the front of the tank and the pump was sucking air.

Uhm...no fuel pressure...no fuel in the fuel rail...no fuel from the injector nozzles.

Mikey...Mikey...Mikey. Keep the gas tank full!

If Mikey was on an incline, like he said, the fuel wouldn't slop to the front of the tank, it would slop to the back. Where are the pickups?

I hope you didn't really run out of gas because isn't that what the fuel cell is for ????

Well...I assumed that because he said he "coasted" across the intersection rather than pushed the bike uphill......he was aimed downhill.

The fuel pump is in the rear 1/3 of the tank (you must look rearward and to the passenger side from the filler hole), again causing me to think the fuel ran forward, away from the pump.
