EOM-08 Route files question

Q1. I possibly can setup an FTP site to warehouse and distribute the files. Does anyone else already have something available?

Q2. Currently, I can provide these formats without massive difficulty: MS Streets&Trips v2006, Garmin GDB v3, Garmin GDB v2, GPX, Printable PDF of overview map and text details. Is there some other format widely used that I should attempt?

Q3. I'm planning on including Smoke Hole Rd as a route, or as part of an adjacent route. Any other special requests?

I think one more route eminating from Lewisburg is in order.

Extreme and I had dinner and EOM conversations today. He's in my neck of the woods procuring something top secret military from Camp LeJeune. We think it would be a good idea to build some routes that people could use to travel to/from Lewisburg to their various destinations. That way folks can do better than just slab their way there and back home.

That would be one cool idea. I have one for myself in mind, but am always open to suggestions for new ones.

So, what you're saying is there are a lot of folks who don't have a map & cannot figure their own routing to/from? :umnik2: I think that there are folks who slab because it saves time & they can make Lewisburg in one day as opposed to two or more days.

About that route eminating from the Lewisburg area that should be added. IMO at least two more should be added. Jim, I'll be over to play shortly... when the weather breaks, that is.

No, what I'm saying is that there are a lot of folks who struggle to make a couple days of the event, and who could benefit from knowing what good riding could be had on their way in and out of the event. Rather than guessing or finding out AFTER they arrive, thought it would be nice to give them a heads-up, that's all.

I'm planning on 3-7 different routes that each take a significantly different heading. Custom routes can be purchased and as everyone knows, I am cheap.

Jeff and I talked about the routes in & out; as a suggestion / option for anyone who might have time to do something other that slab directly to Lewisburg.

For example, last year, Red Diver and I, along with haulin'ashe and E1Allen, headed out south over Potts Mtn on 311 (great road), in Roanoke, we split up. Red Diver and I picked up the BRP and ran south to I-77. Now, we could have just done 64 to 77, but the back way was much more fun on deserted sunday morning roads. Jim had suggested this route to me on the way in, but we had to stop in Princeton to get tires on one of the bikes I was traveling with.

When I come in this year, I'll be coming from Michigan via SW Ohio. If I have a way in other than slab, then I'll do that and won't plan on running those same roads during the meet. It would also be nice to head out on different roads, but still heading NW towards home.

That is a great idea. I just got Zumo and don't really know how to use all of the features yet.

Here's an idea.

What if someone really good with a GPS and a lap top(hint,hint) put on a seminar ? I see last year there was a TBS on the schedule. I'll even bring the lap top & Zumo , just need someone to teach. If tuition was Bud Light that would be fine.

I'm sure there will be a group of us from NE Ohio headed to EOM again this year & your welcome to join in Wayne.

Last year we made our way throught SE Ohio twisties to WV Rt. 16 South to 60 East on the way down & 219 North to 250 West on the way home, both were great rides.

Hey Jeff,

This is a good idea, however; I think I have beaten you to the punch! I have a route sheet made out for all riders to get to Lewisburg and have MS Street & Trips map(s) to go along with it. Though I did route most via the supper slabs, those who are coming from the south east of Lewisburg don't have a direct slab to take (you should know that). I did make the comment in my write up that the routes use the Interstates as a mean to get the riders to Lewisburg as quickly as possible, but if they so choose too, can easily jump off the slabs and take the twisty stuff into Lewisburg as they get close to Lewisburg, consulting there own map or GPS of course.

Now, I got to figure out how to get this info out to folks. Your FTP question is the way to go. Can anybody help with that this year?

And while I got your attention; do you still have the directions, maps & Garmin files from last year? Those can be used this year and we all could add to the list as well. As I recall, there were 9 rides total? I've been working on a route to get folks over to WV 16 and another route that takes folks up north to Richwood the back way on 10/39. Cool road, lots of curves but a little narrow! Been on it three times and had a blast!
