Earlier today I was speaking to FJRforum member, quicksilver & telling him about my experience from last year when I approached 3 different vendors about donating to EOM's door prizes. Out of those 3 vendors, I was offered 1 gallon of bike washing concentrate. Needless to say, I decided that it would be more trouble to carry it to Boone than I wanted to deal with. So, I didn't go back to pick up the bike wash to take with me.

I was told by this member that "you probably suck at begging for door prizes because you expect the vender to say "no" when you ask for a donation".

Well Brent, you're probably right.

In light of that situation, I am asking for door prize help. Brent & a couple of other kind souls did last year's collecting & did an absolutely stupendous job. Some of the items were actually custom made (you go Jarmo) I'm hoping that I can get some people together to gather even more cool goodies this year.

I went thru a previous EOM thread & found the names of people who had offered to help when the help was needed.

These folks are: Grumpy, jwilly, RoadGlide, Metcalfe1963 & Violione. See, I told you I was comin' lookin' for ya's.

If anyone (even if you're not on this list) can offer some help in this department, the FJR community will be forever indebted to you (& me too). If individuals choose not to help... that's ok, too.

I'm trying to get ducks in a row. I don't think that the door prize collection needs to start tomorrow or even next month... but I'd like to know who these people will be. Maybe we can discuss the vendors to beg from, etc.

Anyone else that has an item they'd like to throw into the door prize pot, please do so. We had some really cool bike oriented gadgets/tools that were left in someones garage that were donated last year.

I plan to try my local vendors again. Maybe I should try a different approach this time,

Heidi

Thank you Charlie. As time gets closer I'll be contacting these people.

Heidi,

I have a Datatool Turn Alert NIB that I can donate as a door prize. See how it works HERE at APIERRE's website. I'm pretty sure I'll be attending so I'll bring it down with me. If not, I'll get a mailing address from you at some point and send it down.

Very cool Chris (your name is Chris, right?). I'm assuming at some point I need to write this stuff down, eh? Thank you.

Bump!

I am hoping that some people see this & will step up. The door prize giveaway is a huge part of the EOM event. Without people to solicit vendors there isn't stuff to give away.

Travis, if you see this could you please tack this post to the top of the EOM section, please?

I'll help.......don't know how good I'll be, but I'll give it a shot!

Do we have an address where we can get the loot shipped?....for sure I'll not be carrying it up on the back of the old scooter, what with the misses along.

Have you assigned anyone to contact Cyprus?

Dont know yet if I can even go but I'll see what I can dig up from around here. My wife says I am pretty good at begging so I think I will give it a try....besides, it gives me a chance to go back and visit the showroom again. :)

Jim, I'm pretty sure that everything can be shipped to the hotel. If all else fails we can send items to Jim Meadow's house. He lives about 10 or so miles from Brier Inn. Nothing has been set, yet. Some vendors only want one person to contact them... so, when the time is right we can talk about who's gonna' call who. Right now, I'm only hoping that there are individuals who will help out with this... because sure as hell, I'm not any good at this part.

I'm gonna' write your name down & when time gets closer, we can divy out who is calling who. Thank you so very much.

Heidi,

I am thinking that I will go to Cycle World, Sun Rise and Adventure BMW to see if they would like to donate something! Heck, I think I saw a couple of Harley riders attending as well? I'll go to out SouthSide and BaySide too!

Part of my pitch will be that there are quite a number of riders who will be attending EOM who visit the Hampton Roads area, and of course, those of us who have purchased our bikes from them, would be much inclined to visit their shops while in town. This would be very cost effective advertising for them! But I need a fatter worm on this hook; in the past, has there been a list of donors that has been posted on this forum? If I can give them a URL to look at past door prizes and maybe create a thread of current sponsors/donors for this years event, they might be more inclined to become sponsors of this event and donate. I would also need a couple more names of folk that they could contact as references, so they don't think I trying to scam them, would help.

Any way, I should get up with you and do some brainstorming on this subject! How can we get in touch without giving info out over the forum? Meet up one Friday after work or Saturday/Sunday meet and eat?

Until then,

Violione

Hi Jay,

There is a list/advertisement of vendors from last year. Travis (slapnpop) could probably easily direct you to it.

It is just a list of vendors, though. It doesn't say who donated what. We had some ultra cool stuff last year. Right off the top of my head were:

Muzzy Slipons

Starcom Advanced

Cee Bailey windshield

A few gift certificates for various vendors

2 Really nice Yamaha mesh jackets

Bar Ends

tee shirts, hats, etc

I'm sure someone else will pipe up with some of the stuff that was given away. There was quite a bit of quality goodies.

As usual... I won nothing.

This weekend I'm not going to be around. I apologize. Maybe we can pick another time to do some brainstorming?

Heidi,

You can tell I am an FNG! Sorry about all those false replies - DAG! Alright, I'll send slapnpop an email to see if he can muster up that list. I'll type up something to hand these dealers and maybe we can post a couple of threads here, one for last years donors - winers and this years donors. I think that if they see that other dealers are involved, they will pitch in as well, I hope.

Yeah, just email me, I don't get much time to check the forum, we'll get together soon!

Jay

Premier Cycle Accessories will be donating a $50.00 gift certificate as a door prize for EOM.

I went to my dealer last year and received 4 or 5 (fuzzy memory) cans of bike cleaning/waxing items and a t-shirt that I brought with me. I will do the same again.

Wayne Cycle in Waynesboro, VA

I'll also see if I can hit on the other dealers in the Charlottesville VA area (I'm pretty good at begging when I'm "hitting on") B)

Hi Gary,

wondering when someone was gonna' take the rock off of your head.

You bringing Shiny Penny this year?

Heidi

Hey Gary, welcome back. I've thought to myself the past few months that I haven't seen you posting. Hope all is well.

Jim
