Are the different rides set up to go out as a group or is it all freelance? I am getting ready to head up there Wed arriving Thurs from FL. Thanks in advance.

Good question.... My first time too. I know there have been 9 rides posted for downloading into your GPS. Also some talk about two up rides for the sights. Guess we will find out when we get there... ;)

Well, seeing as this is my first EOM, I'll flounder a guess and hope some of the more experienced folks (luvtoride,HaulinAshe,Fencer etc.) will chime in.

Yes, I'm sure all routes could be freelanced, but there should be numerous people of numerous riding styles/abilities there who are more than willing to either ride slower, or just kind of tag along on a route you choose.

On another hand, and PLEASE don't mistake this for soapbox preaching, but on some of these roads it's definetly NOT a good idea to head out alone. Some are kind of on the desolate side and especially if you head towards Greenbank, you will NOT have any cell signal, and you could easily find yourself going into a turn too hot and crash. Then what happens? If you are alone, and hurt badly, then you could be screwed until someone else comes along on that route or maybe a local comes along to help. If this is your first time in WV, please consider using a riding buddy. Like I said, I don't want this reply to come out as being preachy or anything, just think ahead a little bit before heading out. We want EVERYONE to have fun and be safe! :D ;)

Here's the deal with routes. These are several, optional, choice-friendly rides that can have you back at the hotel come quitin' time. Last year, folks just casually collected up with other folks. Small, manageable groups formed, picked a ride, and went. Evenings, everyone comes back 'round the same approximate time and the parking lot social begins.

The routes have been selected to give folks good, entertaining roads with some good sights along the way. Heck, you don't even have to take the posted routes, you can ride where you choose. It is wise, however, to let somebody know where, so somebody's expecting you.

I think, I read somewhere we can file "flight plans" in the mornings for just that reason.

WELCOME EOM Newbies!!! We are happy to have you join us.

You will find EOM tends to be a bit different than other FJR gatherings. Most, perhaps nearly all of EOM attendees are there to ride. There's plenty of socializing starting at dusk, but EOM people ride all day long.

Start your planning now by downloading the Route Description file and reading carefully. Everything we know to tell you about the routes is in there.

The routes posted for EOM are suggested rides for your consideration, nothing more. There are no officially organized rides because it's not in everyone's best interest to do so.

As Scab stated, you are encouraged to, at the very least, let someone know what area/route you are choosing that day and when you expect to return. That's just good common sense. Everyone who participates in the organization and execution of these events is concerned for your safety, AND we want you to enjoy yourself instead of spending all your time staring at maps.

:)

As far as I know there's only one hard-written rule about routes... I think it's called the JWilly rule and goes something like this...

"Never, and I mean NEVER, attempt to follow the one called Haulin' Ashe!"

It's a good rule to live by. I overshoot more turns than I make. It's very confusing to follow me. But I do make good route files.

:)

gunny to all above.

Routes were posted to save everyone the "standing in the parking lot scratching yer head wondering which way to go"...

As stated already, ride what you want when you want, but at a minimum, I ask that everyone ride in pairs. There are some of the best, most challenging roads on the east coast in this area. We want everyone to enjoy themselves and make it home safely.

Flight plan registration idea is for anyone who's looking for someone to be wondering "where's rockmurf at? He should have been back 4 hrs ago." Especially if anyone chooses to venture out solo. I plan on doing a quick riders meeting for anyone who wishes to hear my twist on "ride safe" each morning.

If you're new to the area, pair up and tag along with someone who's been.

and double gunny to the don't try to keep up with the one called haulin' ashe...

Amen, brother!

I must be blind, I didn't even see the route description.

Thanks for the great maps and descriptions. I can't begin to imagine how much time it took to do all this.

It is much appreciated.

Chris

Be sure to hook up with a group that will be running at a pace you will enjoy. Two years ago, my son and I struck off on our own to ride one of the routes and last year (I was alone) I rode with the two-up group for a good part of the day. My goal in this trip is to see the sights, ride at my own pace, and to have fun. Special emphasis on leaving no plastic parts in WV to litter the countryside.

PS: My son and I will be riding EOM route 1 on Saturday if you want to tag along.

I'll show up next EOM just to keep Haulin' under control. Scab, he maybe off his medication, would you check and see?jim
He may be out of his lithium. If so, I've got an extra cell phone battery he can suck on.
