EOM Need An SS1k Witness

I'm coming down on the Thursday for EOM

Anyone in on Thursday night prepared to act as a witness for an SS1K?

I expect to be in by 10.00 pm.

Ok, Bug, what is an SS1K? Is that a 1K in a day Saddle Sore thing? What route are you planning on taking? Have to be a big loop? How does that work?

SaddleSore 1000... 1000 documented miles in under 24 hours. Requires witness and odometer verification at the start and finish, plus printed and dated reciepts at every gas stop. It's probably the easiest of the Iron Butt rides you can do. Don't get me wrong, it's tough if you aren't used to that kind of all day riding, but I found the keeping track of the reciepts and documentation to be the hardest part. I completed mine in about 20 hours, and that was with a 5 hour nap. It's generally hell on tires due to the massive amounts of super-slabbing that most people do to complete it in the shortest time.

Anyway, I'll probably be there as a witness. I'm most likely doing one down to New Orleans in the beginning of the week and will be checking into Tally Ho a day earlier with friends instead of riding straight to the EOM from VA on Friday. On the off chance that I'm not there, a couple of riders have emailed to say they'd be there earlier than the 16th, so I can hook you up with one of them if I can't make it in time.

BTW... cell phone service sucks in Townsend, so make sure you know where your witness is... you probably won't be able to call him/her and ask.

I don't know where you're coming from but I live in Johnson City, about 90 miles NE of townsend just off I-81. If you're throught with your 1k miles and are coming down that direction, I'd be happy to!

Okay... My schedule is now working it's way out a bit. I *WILL* be in Townsend on Thursday evening and will be available for SS1k witnessing. I'll find out my room number and post it on here when I get it. That way if anyone roles in late, you'll know who's door to come banging on without pissing off the wrong tennant. I'll be at the Tally Ho Inn, in the rear-most building. I just forgot the actual room number (but I need to give them a call anyway). Warning... the later you are, the less sober I'll be... but I should at least be able to read an odometer and scribble something like my name and address. :dribble:
