So did my first oil change at 3,850 miles; dealer did the 600 mile one. A little messier than i'd like.

Q: should i do this on the center stand? I did it on the sidestand. But, not alot of room to work with. Plus when removing the filter the oil seems to drip into some of the foam, etc. and not a clean drip into a pan.

And what's the tip to get it up on centerstand? Not an easy task for me.

Have an 07. Oh it's red...

I uzilly jist rassle that ol' sucker. When et's guhd en tarred, I pik'er up, hole the murdersickle wif mah rite arm en reech don wif mah lef arm en flick thet dang ol' sinter stand down. No prollem. The lass tyme she din't wanna go up on the sinter stan ah threwer don en the grass en took me a dang ol' 2-by-4 en giver a guhd "whump" on the seat. No more prollems...she's tame as a lamb! :yahoo:

OR, standing on the left side of the bike, left hand on the handlebar, right hand in the handhold (under the tail piece, just ahead of the left sidecase--it's there, bend over and take a look). In one motion, stand down on the centerstand and lift with your right hand. (Pressing down on the centerstand is as important as lifting with your right arm--its all about technique, not how hard you lift with your arm.) It should rock right up. After fighting with the Connie for years I almost threw the FJR backwards out of my garage.

Oil Change Tip: Take some tin foil and make a trough that covers the fairing piece. That way any excess oil that spills from the filter will drain down into your oil drain pan and not slop on the bike.

After the side stand bolt on my 84 Venture broke one time I never trusted it completely so used the center stand all the time....the FJR is EASY to get on the center stand compared to that tank!! :blink:

Like has been mentioned before...the trick is to put a lot of weight on the foot pad on the center stand while you are lifting with your right hand. Think of it more as trying to spread the bike and the center stand apart with your foot and hand rather than trying to lift it onto the stand. It just rolls right up there, nice and easy.
