error code 43

Here we go again. I was riding down the highway about 75 and the bike lost all

of its power. The bike is a 2006 FJR1300AE with 25,000 miles and has been nothing

but problem. . .

Does anyone know what code 43 is? I switch the key on and off several times

but would not start. I flipped the kill toggle switch and then it started. Rode home

just fine.

Was it a straight fault code, or was it an "Sh__43" code? The latter is interpreted as:

I'm not sure what you mean by "lost all power." Did the engine die, but lights were still on? Or was the bike dead as if the key were turned off? What happened would determine where to look for the problem. But here's some general things to look for:

I would start with checking the battery connections because it's easy and very common to have a loose terminal.

Also check whether the ignition switch recall has been done on your bike - any Yamaha dealer can check the system to see if it's been done. This is a free check and repair.

A failing sidestand switch will kill the engine instantly, but the lights stay on. This happened to me a few days ago and I posted about it on this subforum.

 
By loss of power I mean no power to the throttle, The lights did stay on and once I turned the bike off and back on the gages went thru there

normal start up process but had no power to the starter button.

 
Based on the lights still being on, I don't think you have a ignition switch or battery connection problem. I don't have a schematic handy here at work, but the fact that cycling the kill switch fixed your problem would lead me to take that switch apart for an inspection to see if the contacts are crudded up. Or it could have been a coincidence that cycling the switch allowed the bike to start. Intermittent problems can be a bitch to troubleshoot.

The sidestand switch can cause your problem also (it's happened to me a few times). See my post here: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/159487-going-70-in-the-fast-lane-bike-dies-i-dont/?p=1169402 that shows where the sidestand switch connector is located. If you hook up a ohm meter to the switch side of the harness, you can move the sidestand up and down to verify whether the switch is good. A good switch will read no more than a few ohms with the stand up and infinite ohms with the stand down. This type of troubleshooting is best accomplished by using your hand to actuate the plunger very slowly to try and get it to hang up and verify the failure.
