I recently ran into an issue upgrading a client's laptop to Service Pack 3. It was running bitDefender Anti-virus and ZoneAlarm.
The problem was that bitDefender - even when shut down - was blocking Registry changes and SP3 would download, start to install, and then it threw an error message stating "Access Denied".
So, I went to the MS site and downloaded the ISO file to my desktop, cut it onto a CD using CDBurnerXP (free), and then rebooted the laptop into Safe Mode.
I then stuck the CD in the CD player...and it worked like a champ.
You do regularly do your Windows updates, right???
