My 8500 is used and abused daily. +110 F days in summer, 15 F in winter, sometimes forgotten about when washing the bike.

The final straw that killed it was the NAFO trip and thunder burst rain storm. To say it got wet is an understatement.

Called Escort service department.

1. The guy actually spoke English.
2. He checked, on his own, to see if I had an extended warranty. 'Yes, you do!' was the answer.
3. Got the RMA, sent it in.
4. 5 days later, a phone call. The entire circuit board had to be replaced due to corrosion. They were correct, as I had pulled the guts, looked at all the green munge and even attempted a clean up with Electrical Contact cleaner and a brush.
5. They service rep says complete mom board replacement is not covered, but for 85 bucks they'll replace it.
6. The detector magically appears on my front door step 3 days later.
7. Not only did they replace the mother board, but they replaced the plastic top and bottom case, lense, antennae, provided a new carrying case, new power cord, suction cups, and even a new manual.

In other words, they provided a brand new (refurbished) unit for 85 bucks.
