Still looking for info on this potential purchase for me. Yes - I HAVE searched for the info I'm asking. Bite me.

We know the nice folks at D&H Cycle are offering the 4 Year Extended Plan for around $400. I was just quoted this by a Calgary, Alberta Dealer on the used FJRs they have in stock:

"We can sell you an extended warranty, which would be ~$1200 for another 3 years, ~$1100 for 2 or $1000 for 1 (roughly)"

I'm sorry but should I be expecting dinner from this guy before I let him do me like that!?

It seems like the Canadian pricing is *WAY" out of whack with the US warranty pricing. Is the above pricing from the dealer what I should expect from every dealer I talk to in Canada? Considering how much less a bike in Canada (in theory) would be ridden), I'd think the warranty pricing would be more in line with the US number.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just payed $389 for 48 months in the beginning of march so thats accurate for D&H. I can't believe that it is so much more in Canada. Are you getting something extra with it?

Sounds like a rehash of this recent thread and a subject that has been covered many (but probably not Many or MANY) times before on the forum. It's NEPRT-lite and I find many threads on subject when I search on canadian warranty site:fjrforum.com.

No offense intended but the thread you link to was whether or not there was value in the Canadian Warranty. It was also 6 months old. I'm asking about whether or not the local dealer is trying to rip me off in offering a warranty on a used bike.

And I did do a search for "canadian warranty". It turned up 77 results like "Water Heater Burst" and "Sill Running Like Crap!" and "FJRF009.2: "Intermittent Ground Wire Connection" and "Beowulf anyone?"....so, search on the forum software can be awfully useless sometimes.

I and others agree! Use Google! canadian warranty site:fjrforum.com

Unless you want to use the + sign and other boolean operators--then the forum search software can work well if you put the effort in. ;)

ShawnKing, From your profile it appears you are in Portland, OR. Why are you wasting your time and ours agonizing over Y.E.S. prices offered in Canada? I just purchased my second extended warranty from D&H for $349. I know it is valid as I received the new warranty packet from Yamaha Motor, Cypress, CA. last week. Stop shopping and call D&H. They will give you the price and tell you to send them a check.

Yamaha Canada is a huge rip off. And warranties are not cross border either. I got my bike new from Montana and the warranty was not valid in Canada. And when I went to Yamaha dealerships here, they said I couldn't even buy a warranty for a cross border bike.

You must have got a bike from BF. They bring in lots of used bikes from auction in the States.

Moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada at the end of the month.

Sorry for wasting your time with my "agonizing". My apologies for forcing you to read my posts. My bad.

Aha! But will Yamaha CA honor a Yamaha USA extended? THAT'S the question!
According to everyone I've spoken to unfortunately no, they won't.

Ok....that's strange to hear. Blackfoot Motorsports in Calgary offered me an extended warranty for the FJRs they have in stock. They are used bikes from the USA.

ShawnKing, If I were you, I would contact Yamaha HQ in Cyress, CA and have them clafify this matter. Ask them if an active YES in the US will be honored in Canada. If they say yes, get it in writing. Before you move to the wilderness (Alberta) buy an extended YES from D&H. It's worth a try!!!

Lighten up Francis! Why do you live to jump on people who don't meet your search standards? Shawn made a good faith effort to search the topic. What more should we ask members to do?

I'd call Yamaha Canada to confirm if the YES works up here. Yamaha US is not the one you'll be going to for warranty work up here so what they tells you is meaningless. Like I said, they are two completely different companys. Alot of car manufacturers are starting to do the same. Warranty doesn't cross the 48th.

What are you worried about anyway. These bikes are crazy reliable. Besides, worst case, you could drive 4 hours to Great Falls, MT to get warranty work done.

You'll like Calgary.
