They're layered plastic sheets popularized by motocrossers that get mud flung onto their shields...and they can "tear off" one so quickly they can even do it in mid jump.

A little spendy and overkill for street bikes I think personally, but I've found a pack of Windex Wipes in my tank bag are convenient enough to clean my shield one-handed while underway.

Hi.I need a new face shield for my Arai Quantum helmet and I came across these "tear-off posts" and couldn't really figure out what they were. Has anyone used them and can you tell me how they are used and if they work well?

Basicly put, they are clear strips of plastic that are afixed to the face shield of helmets (or to goggles) that can be easily taken off and discarded quickly.

They are used by flat trackers, enduro riders and others that are riding in wet muddy terrain. When the mud from the bike, in front of you, impairs your vision by caking up your face shield, you can rip one off and discard it. Often, there are several layers of "tear offs", so the rider can keep discarding them as the mud impairs his vision. I would guess there are other uses, but that is what we used them for.
