Hi,

Just joined the forum, posted my first one in the new section yesterday...first post

I'm wondering what is a fair OTD price (I assume otd includes tax) for an 06AE...I found a couple of dealers with 1 in stock (thanks to info from another thread)...

Cheers,

Danny.

Let 'em know that you know the '07s will be out soon and see what they say. Ask 'em how they have one on the floor when they were special-order only, and how it will affect the warranty. Then send TWN in there to barter you a deal.

Theres one down by mission motorsports that hadd a tag on it for 10999 plus tax and reg. Good deal if you ask me. I'm sure they'll try to stick you with some additioanl fees. Just tell them to stick it.

If you can get an '06 AE for $10,999 I would say you are getting a great deal. Kinda makes me feel stupid for what I spent on mine back in September. In either case, you will be getting a great bike. My dealer did allow me to test ride the AE before I bought it. I guess that was because they were not moving very well. Make sure you do ride an AE before you buy it. I love the automatic clutch now that I have grown accustom to it. Getting used to it and making the transition requires some effort though. If you are not committed to that effort and time frame you will not be happy with the purchase regardless of the price you pay.

Good luck with you negotiations,

CaryB

If they don't want to let you ride one, make sure it has zero miles on or WTF? If nothing else. I would insist on an acceptance ride before finalizing the deal, especially if you've never ridden the AE. It will take some getting used to, so tell 'em you'll need a couple of hours. :D

+1 on jumping on it for 11k

I paid 12,900 + tax, etc. for my AE about a month and a half ago. They sit on the floor because the dealer orders them in employees names at the beginning of the year. The downfall is that the warranty is partially used up by the time you buy the bike. They usually come with 12 months, but if it has been sitting on the floor for 4 months, you get 8! I doubt $10,900 is REALLY what they would sell it for, 07's or not! If they do, then I will certainly be jealous of you!

You got the shaft I ordered my new 07 a for $12,200.00 I know it is higher than D&H but don't have to go there to pick it up.

You have to be ready to walk away from deal and they should know that :angry2:

Like I told my dealer the more you save me the more I can spend on farkles here :yahoo:

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and advice...I'll be sure to let you know how things work out...

Au contrere, mon ami! Before you go telling someone he got the shaft, would you please answer two simple questions?

Question #1: Is your $12,200 FJR legal to be registered in California?

Question #2: Did'ja happin' tuh reed the tightel of his Thred....whar et sez...."in CA"?

Probably no to both questions as all bikes sold in and subsequently registered in CA must have the CARB (California Air Resources Board) compliance sticker. California has different smog requirements than the bikes sold in the other 47 contiguous states, for instance a charcoal cannister. The CA dealers know that we cannot legally go out-of-state and purchase a motorcycle and register it in this state. Any bike imported into CA must have 7,500 miles on the odometer before it can be registered here as a used bike. If it is lacking the mileage, CA DMV will flag the VIN and it can NEVER be brought into the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia by anyone. In the past years there have been CA owners who had to sell their bikes because of this law. Yes, there are illegal ways to circumvent the DMV registration process, and there are provisions for someone moving to CA and bringing their FJR with them, but that is not the purpose of this thread.

So, in the future, if you are going to give advice, or chide another's decision, please check your facts so you are comparing apples to apples.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming. :)

And why are my panties in such a bunch this evening?

Geez Mike, never seen you so mad. Get it, Madmike- Mikemad. I crack myself up. Good points on the republic of Kalifornia. Don't you think anything under 12K would be a smokin' deal?

Absolutely, if it can be pulled together, and it sounds as if he has fallen into a "niche". It could be that they've had it on the floor for so long that it is close to being out of warranty. If so, he'll have to call D&H immediately and purchase a Y.E.S. It just riles me that people in the other 47 connecting states think that all bikes are the same, and they are not. Just like comparing our prices with what the guys have to pay in Extreme North America (Canada, for the uninitiated).

If one wants to compare price schedules, then one should do some basic research and respond from the facts as they are, not what may be happening in one particular zone of the United States. I probably should have been kinder, but this comes up every year, so I was direct (terse?)....and the person who posted was telling someone in a situation he had no knowledge of to walk away. Doh!

With our taxes, he's probably going to be close to 12K + change, but yes, it's a way smokin' deal if he can make it work. There are a few dealers here in Central CA who will deal. The ones who will not are recognized. I've been known to direct FJR buyers from the dealer I bought mine to another where the pricing is better. Just my way of "getting even" for being, uhm, taken advantage of when my '04 was totalled.

Madmike,

Thanks for the Valid Input. I am not of the opinion I got "the shaft" or anything like that. It was a local dealer, the experience was great, and I got it for like 3 grand under sticker. For a bike THIS hard to find, it was a great deal for me! The only thing I did that I regret was get Y.E.S. from them at $699, when I later found I could get it for less here. There will ALWAYS be someone who can get the bike cheaper somewhere else, but while he ordered his, I have been riding (and immensely enjoying) mine! :p

+1. That's one of the lessons we've learned over the years. Some of us have had to pay full sticker to get our bikse. No deal, but I enjoy mine just the same.

I'm glad for your experience and welcome to the madhouse. You realize that you now begin an exercise in self-control: Planning your farkles without harming your checkbook-savings-investment portfolio-mortgage-retirement. :yahoo:

Don't be jealous...The "extras" make it just as expensive as almost everywhere else.

After contacting over 30 dealers from Sacramento down to LA there are 8 new 06AE and 2 slightly used 06AE out there.

the best price I could find on a new 06AE with all taxes and fees was $14,300, however I'm heading south to look at one of the 2 used bikes tomorrow...all being well I'll be riding it home tomorrow night :)

I hope everything is copacetic. (Wow, man, how 60's is THAT?) I'll cross my fingers for you. If all goes well you can have a "boss" and "bitchin'" ride home.

I can't believe all of that just fell out of my brain. Oh, wait a sec.....yes I can!

GROUP HUG...now let's all sing, "Don't Bogart that joint, my friend....."

Mike, I don't know what you are doing but carefully step away from it.

Jeez, Louise...and I don't drink or use ANY substance to reach an altered state. Perhaps its the altered state in which I exist normally.

Or maybe its the Geritol? Yeah, thas it...it must be... :yahoo:

I paid full pop for mine, it was the only one for sale in the state, and was the 1st AE in the state (for sale). I went to a diffferent dealer later the week I got it. The staff came out to look at it cuz it was special here. I had to go to 5 dealerships and look for 2 months just to see one. I bought it the second I saw it, never even heard it run.

I do not regret my decision, I love my bike and I get lotsa props when riding it too (not that I care)

To me price was not negotiable, I was damm lucky to find one I could touch before buying it. It was a beautiful day :yahoo:
