Fair price for a 2005 ? Accesories ?

I have a chance to purchase a 2005 FJR with no ABS and 17,000 miles. the little glove box latch is broken.

Most 2005s I see are 5,200-5,800 and rarely exceeding $6,000. But all of those have higehr mileage 30K and above.

What is a reasonable price to pay for this bike?

What would it cost me to get the glove box fixed?

How about to add a power outlet?

The warranty expired already - is their a warranty I can purchase ?

The glove box subassembly 5VS-2830N-00-00 will set you back about $115. A power outlet is only about $30 for a Powerlet. Excellent. Any advice on the heat - I see you are in CA. I test rode the bike in upper 90s weather and still enjoyed the bike. The heat should give me a few more weeks of riding over here in the mid-west. Thanks.

I have an '05 and the vast majority of the time the heat is a plus particularly for morning rides into work. The only time I ever really dislike the heat is if I get stuck in traffic. It's a great bike!

If I was looking at buying an '05 I would see if I could find one with ABS and more miles perhaps for similar money. IMHO the ABS is a valuable option. And if you find one with say 30K miles, it may have had it's first valve clearance check, maybe even a CCT replacement which you are definitely interested in.

As for power outlets, its a great idea. I like having them on pigtails rather than a plug. One for my tank bag and one for my heated jacket. The tank bag has a regular car adapter that I run the GPS and phone charger in.

As for the OP, there are a lot of other variable you are not mentioning that would determine the bike's value. Based on what little info you provide, and excellent deal would be less than $5,000, a good deal in the $5,000-$5,400 range.

That's a fair price considering the low miles. The heat was good for living in Wisconsin. The only time I didn't like it was in the Smokie Mountains in 90 degree weather.

After my recent accident, I wouldn't buy anything other than ABS equipped. When I bought my bike I hemmed and hawed over the importance of it. Now that I AM that statistical minority that could have used it, I regret not having it . There's soooo many bikes for sale, eventually something will come up at the right price/features etc.

Check the maintenance logs before you buy!

I guess the only other thing to mention is that it has Pirellis in excellent shape, never crashed, nothing shows up on the VIN report, and a sergeant seat. The sargeant seat with the passenger back rest. There is also a center stand and OEM luggage. One owner who is over 60 years old. No ticking. Bike runs incredibly well. I tested it -dealer gave me three hours on the bike

. I must admit, in that time I bonded with that bike. Riding my bike now just feels like "not the FJR." I have tested several bikes of the dual sport and sport touring variety and none of them left me feeling this way. That FJR just handles so well is rides so smoothly. I feel much safer on it than my Wee Strom.

Dealer is giving me a great deal on my current bike. My current bike would cost me 750.00 to bring up to spec. The deal he's givIng me is even better than what I'd get if the bike was in perfect shape.

Through six states and it doesn't have ABS. Most of you elders have riding for years without ABS. So, truthfully I want it but perhaps I'll get ABS later on a third bike.

I just got back from running a few errands with the bike. It is over 100 degrees F today and in traffic it didn't take long for the cooling fan to turn on. Sitting at traffic lights the heat was noticeable, but not any worse than sitting in the sun on a 100 degree day on asphalt would be anyway. Once moving, heat does hit the legs, but I wear Olympia Airglide pants and boots, so, again, not a problem. I do have a reflective bubble wrap blanket that fits between the engine and fuel tank. It keeps the heat off the tank and crotch. Highly recommended. I don't have any of the other chromeit heat fixes. I did a 7500 mile cross country trip from July 16 to August 6 this year, including crossing KS, MO, IL and IN during that extreme heat warning. You probably remember it. I rode about as comfortably as could be expected, but kept hydrated and tried to keep wet under the mesh jacket for cooling. At highway speeds, heat can be an issue, but not just the heat from the bike. Wear good gear and you wont notice it. Ride in shorts, and it may singe your leg-hair off.

That's what I'm thinking. Still trying to make sure I'm not swept away by the emotion of riding the bike. Riding has become the only thing that settles my brain. I can't meditate any other way. As businessmen use golf to to simply their brains, I use the wind and the road.

The next time i put brakes on my bike with ABS I will ask for those over 60 brake disc pads that are new to us. The young'ns if they only knew. Buy it, I have an 05 and over 60 brakes on it, still getting aquainted with them.

Coincidentally, the latch on the box is broken. A little adhesive velcro fixed it right up.

I hear people say that the bike makes some heat... Well, it's been over a hundred for about 45 days in a row here in Dallas.

I don't even notice any heat.

I suggest you buy it, but watch out for the ticking issue.

Vehicles are worth what a buyer and seller negotiate. I paid $6K even for an '05 with 19K miles a couple months back.

Cycle trader shows quite a few of the same model for less or for similar paymeith ABS. But again, my dealer here is offering me an unbelievable deal on my current bike. I don't think I can beat it.

So how do you cure these FJR dreams? Once you possess the bike and ride it frequently, do the dreams stop? Or do they get worse? Farkling dreams wont let me sleep ! What the farkle !
