fairing panels?

Just the other day, I noticed that I can see the side of my battery, down alongside my forks. I don't know if I just noticed this because my new battery has a big, brightly colored sticker right where it is visible, or if there's a panel that is supposed to be there. Before I get all worked up, I was wondering if someone either had a picture of a GEN II that shows this area, or a parts diagram, or maybe can just answer my question.

There is a plastic piece that covers most of the battery, but the front bottom third-ish is visible from the top. Look at the parts fiche cowling details for specific pieces.

Those panels are large and one piece at a time. If you were missing one you would know. Looking from the handle bar's center out, I can see the entire bottom of the battery and the retaining strap.
