So all you NERDS and not-so-NERDS, I'm looking at the possibility of organizing an autumn run for Chowda and other fine eats. I know that this may be a stretch for some folks given the NERDS ride before and EOM soon to follow, but looking at the potential for an early fall run in the first half of September.... gotta do it when ya can do it, ya know?! ;)

The only good thing about doing it at this time of year is that the kiddies will be back in school and it will be too early for the leaf peepers. The weather, however, is typically spectacular with cool mornings and warm, sunny afternoons! B)

Anyway, this thread is to guage interest for this time of year and I will modify the first post for any important updates as they become applicable. I have put it my time off request at work and was told that so far, it looks like there's no reason it shouldn't get approved! More to follow....

UPDATE: The dates for this ride have been set to Sept 14-16

I would be interested - Date, work, and my kids hockey schedule dependent of course - wanted to do it last year but the weather sucked

Well, seeing how all the fall rides are iffy right now because of our planned June trip I can say that I am interested. I haven't been able to make any of the previous Chowda runs, so I will pencil this in.

CJ,

Early September sounds like a good idea. As you know, the best times to be on MDI are just before Memorial Day or just after Labor Day. In both cases the crowds will be subdued and the hotel prices more manageable.

I'm not sure if we will be in for this one just yet, with NERDS and EOM being in our travel plans, but I'll keep an eye on what you can pull together.

We did do this ride last year on 9/11. The weather was spectacular, the roads were really interesting, and the company was fascinatin'. I think you missed out on that one, CJ.

I'm not fond of chowdah, but you know what they say; "Wheah theahs chowdah theahs lobstah and steamahs!"** I think we'd be interested in a run up the coast.

**Translation: "In areas where chowder is consumed, you will most often find crustaceons and bi-valves being prepared using boiled water. Frequently served with melted butter. Wear a bib."

Marcia and I are interested. Dance card is usually busy in September so an early decision on a date would be helpful to us.

EDIT: We would be more interested in a 1-2 day trip and would not be doing the usual full distance to Bangor.

We'll keep an eye on this thread for a decision on the dates, and then see if the necessary vacation days are still available.

Hahaha, most excellent! Glad to see the early interest! Fred and others here know how things can change despite the best laid plans (you don't want to here my saga of how I know, trust me!) and that early planning is key for most peeps. That being said, I will most likely try to set a firm date within the next week. I just need to press the boss-woman (YES, w-o-m-a-n!)at work for a definite yes to the vacation dates I requested. Until then, keep posting away as to who are interested and any things that you would like to see/do differently for those who have made this trek the past two years. Fred did an outstanding job from all of the posts I've read, but there's always room for suggestions/improvements. Again, a big huge thank you goes out to Fred for taking over on this ride the past two years!

So, based on the time granted from work for vacation, I have pinned the dates down for this ride as Sept 14-16. I know this is right before EOM and certainly don't want this ride to be missed for those heading south, but just think of it as an EOM shakedown ride!

For anyone interested who is not familiar, this will be a laid back touring event, perfect for two up. There won't be any knee dragging, but there will be some of the best food sampling from local waters ever!! Clam chowders, lobsters, steamers, the ever popular fried clam and scallop fare, just to name a few!

Will be gathering and organizing more information that will be forthcoming, I just wanted to be able to get the dates pinned down so folks could plan accordingly. :)

One of needs to get Friday off (which won't be difficult), and the other needs to get Sunday off (which might be more difficult), but we're still interested.

Whaa??? A Chowder head is in charge of a Chowda run?

Doggone it all I'm gonna miss this one :( I'll be on the left coast making a 1500 mile samitch run.

Oregon RTE

Ya gonna be at NERDS this year CJ?
