Planning a fall colors ride this October from Florida all the way to Front Royal, West Virginia, Pensylvania.

Hope to leave Tampa Florida October 12.

Any interested parties. PM.

Will pay for gas, willing to share hotel. Duration about five days.

Only for the adventurous. I normally ride fast and far.

Hey there ONE MORE BIKE. A friendly warning on your trip. The Blue Ridge Pkwy & Skyline Dr are both federal land. I see that you like to travel fast. You might think twice about traveling too fast on either of these roads. The performance award fines can be heavy... like up to $500.00 heavy. I believe that it's up to the discretion of the ranger that stops you. Also, I would count on the roads being heavily traveled by leaf peepers. After all, the park service does encourage people to stop, gawk & go slow.

The top speed limit on the BRP is 45... & some areas are sometimes marked as 35 mph zones. The speed limit on Skyline is 35... & that is all the way thru Shenandoah National Park... from start to finish. The good thing is a ticket up there doesn't carry any points... just hefty fines.

Anyhow, enjoy your trip. It's a great time of the year to be riding the area. It's nice and cool... but can be downright cold on occasion.

Too bad you're traveling thru so fast. There is a group of FJR riders (that includes me) headed out into the mountains the 2nd weekend in October. We'll be in VA & WV to do some leaf peeping. (we'll be avoiding the BRP) I'm assuming our trip is going to be a "smell the roses & take pictures" type trip w/ some spirited moments thrown in there for good measure. Should be fun... I'm looking forward to it.

Be safe & have fun, Heidi

Unless my alzheimer's has made me miss an entire year of my life...I think this October is October of '06. Then again maybe you were going on a really long ride that was lasting all the way until '07...

I intend to leave home on Tuesday ride the BRP, WED. Thur

Hotel in Washington Thur, Fri night. Leave DC Sat and head back via WV, V, to Tennessee.

I have not set a definite schedule. I was hoping to do most of the scenic riding during the week to avoid the weekend crowds.

Are you staying some place specific and public?. If I am in the area may hook up for the ride back to Florida.

ONE MORE BIKE, yep, we sure do have an agenda. We are staying Saturday night in Summersville, WV. The proposed route is:

This suggested route assumes Summersville area for rooms. Start out on 250 in VA. South from rt 250/219 intersect at Huttonsville and at Valley Head take Rt 15 S(W?) to Webster Spings across Gauley Mtn and on to Craigville -- a few nice sets of twisties and a bunch of scenery w/ some pull offs. STOP IN SUMMERSVILLE F/THE NIGHT. In the morning, Rt 39 to Richwood - thru the Mon national forest and it attendant leaves to top of Kennison Mtn (Cranberry Glades) and Rt 150 Highland Scenic Highway with vista pull offs galore. It is sweeper hell, but you won't notice b/c the red spruce high elevations make you giddy anyhow. A cruise up Snowshoe Mtn. would make for some nice views from the top and its sort of on the route. Rt 39 off Back Creek Mtn to MooMaw country and thru Goshen Pass just north of Lexington would definitely be the way to go on Sunday for those wishing to pick up I-64/81 home.
There are rooms set aside for us at the hotel, also. If you're at all interested in catching up, let us know. We'd be happy to have another brother join us.

Oh, by the way... the admins can help you out with editing the title. We alone cannot edit them... DAMNIT! PM'ing one of them dudes should work.

Also, I see you intend to travel during the week which alleviates some of the traffic problems. Still, be really aware of your speed. I'd speed very respectfully. Maybe 10 over on the BRP & not even that on Skyline. The BRP isn't horrible... but Skyline Dr is painfully slow & a real problem if you're trying to get somewhere. BUT THE VIEWS ARE AWESOME! THat's a true-blue "smell the roses" ride.

If you'd like any more information on our ride, you'll find it in this section (the SE) under some babble about the "Old Dominion Leaf Peepers".

Also, there is a guy (FJRGary) leaving from Arlington (The DC area) on Saturday morning to ride down to meet me... & then off we go on our proposed route. If you find that you'd be interested, contact him. I'm sure that he'd love to have someone to ride with.

Heidi
