Just reserved a room at Brier Inn for 24th and 25th. To get 2 beds had to take a smoking room  .

I tried to find GPS routes from EOM 2008, no such luck, they must have been deleted. Anybody still have these on file?

I will be starting my Saturday ride from the Brier Inn.

Ross,

Glad to hear it. Look forward to meeting you. We are going to have a mini EOM! Interesting that you had to get a smoking room. Yuck! The Virginia contingent will be meeting Saturday morning in VA and ending up at the Briar that afternoon/evening. I will try to get our path routed and posted and maybe we can cross paths on Saturday.

Ross,

I still got the 2008 EOM routes. Do you want all of them? I guess there is no feature to post them here on the forum, so send me a PM with your email address and I will send them to you if you want.

Ingo

Bob,

I sent you the Saturday route from earlier this year.

Ingo,

PM with email sent. Since I don't remember any of the routes if I have them all I can pick the best. Anybody have a favorite routes from the EOM 08 routes?

For the serious leaf peeping folks, I highly recommend that whatever route picked, be sure to pick one that goes through Goshen Pass. Goshen is in VA on Rte 39 for those not in the know. The pass is at a fairly low altitude & leaves change there after all else has peaked... & we are looking at possible "past peak". I know for sure that the serious canyon carver may not be interested in the leaves... but me, being a serious canyon carver "AND" serious leaf peeper, I am interested in doing both.

I propose that there be a possibility of planning a new route to best suite us if there isn't already one. EOM 08 routes predominantly incorporate WV

We get to do 56 this time before the pass. It is one of the few sections of road in that area that I haven't ridden on yet. :fans:

Looks like that is on the 'Heidi Loves Half and Half' route #9 and the 'West Central VA Ramble' route #1 from EOM 2008. I am thinking about one of these on Saturday.

Heidi loves 1/2 & 1/2 is a little over 400 miles. We might run into you depending on what time you start, Greg. I'd expect that we'll run thru the best part of rte 56 by 11:00 or so.

Holy crap! I was wondering where "hand and half" came from and what the hell it meant! OK. Now what the hell does Heidi loves 1/2 & 1/2 mean? :confusedsmiley:
Well, she is not drinking skim milk in her coffee, and neither am I. :) And I won't respond to the hand and half typo because who knows where that will lead us.

Anyway, I think the 1/2 and 1/2 is about the route being in two different states.

LOL!! I got to talk with Heidi tonight and got it straight. The 2 states is the deal. Made me laugh, though! And with all the other "stuff" on this forum why would you be shy about the direction of any thread? :fool:

OK. It looks like 10 A.M. at Ducks Corner in Buckingham, VA on 10/24. I would guess we could go with the plans from the last trip down and head out 56 and hit the truck stop in Raphine for lunch.
OK so it looks like we (Beth and I) will be waking up at the Brier Saturday morning and all y'all will be starting at the other end of 56 heading our way. So what time do you anticipate lunch at the truck stop? What is the name of this place? And, if we get up way too early cus we don't usually sleep well at hotels, where the heck is Ducks Corner in Buckingham, VA. Buckingham according to my map is a mere four hour jaunt from the Brier.

We will ride the 7 to 12 hours from Indy to Lewisburg on Thursday depending on our route and what stops we find. Friday we will be hunting historical places that Beth can get info for her teaching, any must see spots anyone can tell us about would be nice.

Nate,

I have Google maps showing just under 3 hours from the Briar to Ducks Corner (2 hours 45 mins to be exact). That is taking 64 east to 81 south one exit to 60 east. 60 east will take you right to Ducks Corner where it intersects with 56.

I don't know what the name of the restaurant is at the truck stop, but it will be the one with all the FJR's parked out front. :p We should be there right around noon.

Let us know if you are going to head out to meet us, so we don't take off without you. You have my cell number if anything changes.

The New River Gorge Bridge visitors center is a good stop in Fayettville. There is a long stairway down to a deck that has a great view of the bridge and the gorge. If you want you can take the old route down into the gorge and cross the old bridge. You can get directions at the visitors center for that. too bad we won't be there this weekend. Bridge day is the 17th. They close down one side of the bridge and let people bungie and parachute off. That would be neat to see.

Nate,

I'll be at the Brier on Friday evening. I have an appointment with a pint of Guinness Friday evening, so I don't know how early I'll be up Saturday morning. I'm planning to ride the 1/2 and 1/2 route from 2008 EOM on Saturday and may bump into the group along the way. I'll be on the slab a good part of Friday so I don't want to do that on Saturday.

Regarding history, I believe JimLor is a Civil War buff and can tell you where to find the good stuff.
