The oldest son of a family we are good friends with was hit by a 16 yr old driver in a truck that pulled out in front of him in Dover TN this last weekend. His name is John Michael Stitt and I think he's 22 now. They amputated his leg below the knee and his pelvis was severely crushed. They feel he is stable but has one more surgery on his pelvis planned this week. The doctors said that if he had not been in such good shape from the strongman training he was doing he would not have likely survived that much pelvic trauma.

I guess it's another reminder that they're out there to get you and you've got to be careful. Also I guess it's also another good motivation to exercise if you're needing a New Year's resolution.

The family would appreciate your prayers and thoughts, though. Specifically, his dad said the main medical concern right now was keeping the knee. John Michael seems to be a very intelligent, positive person that has always been motivated to reach his goals. I know this will change some goals for him, but I believe he will set his mind to thriving. But it's going to be rough for now and I feel for his mom and dad.

And the police did ticket the driver for negligence.

My thoughts and prayers go out to that young man and his family.

I doubt there are any of us on this forum who haven't known someone in that situation. ATGATT can't prevent eveything but it can minimize alot of things.

Please keep us apprised of his condition.

Wow, that is sad to hear. Hope he heals body and mind quickly.

Terrible news. All the best to him and his family, in trying to get through this. Please keep us updated on his progress.

Good positive thoughts to him and his family! I can't imagine what he and his family is going through and I wish them strength and perseverance to overcome!

Having said that, I must say that I get so angry at these negligent drivers! Raging mad, that they are driving around distracted in a 5000 lb projectile as if it is their birth right. Getting ticketed for negligent driving is a pittance of a penalty for ruining someone else's life!

I apologize for ranting, but I had to say it..

Its stories like this that make me envision a future where cars are computer controlled and we mortals are not allowed to manually operate them.

Best wishes to John!

Thoughts and prayers sent. They are doing amazing things with prosthetic limbs these days, one of our own PNW riders rides with a prosthetic leg, so hopefully insurance will come through with the right therapy and gear. Sounds like this guy is a fighter and he's got family to help him, so hopefully a positive outlook.

Healing thoughts and energy coming his way.

Also, perhaps when the time is right, he might want to check out this guy:

Yaeger is a below the knee amputee. A motorcycle accident caused the amputation of his left leg. He broke his pelvis, fractured seven vertebras, tore his bladder and found himself in the hospital for more than three months. After twenty-eight surgeries and many months of rehabilitation, Yaeger made a full recovery, his spark for acting returned and he hasn’t let anything stop him. Yaeger continues to ride motorcycles to this day.
Kurt rides bmx, motorcycles (dirt and street), and has continued to grow his acting career. I hope that maybe he will be an inspiration to John and let him know that his life is not over and he can do anything he puts his mind, body, and spirit toward making happen.

Best wishes for John.

Thanks for all the responses. I don't have a lot to update as it's slow going, but he's still progressing well according to his parents.
