Fastest FJR

I was riding last weekend with some folks in the area and of course the subject turned to speed. The guy on the ST1300 said he had seen 135 on his and I said I got 156 out of my 03 FJR at Bonneville and he said that his buddy with an 08 FJR got 172 out of his somewhere in Nevada. Just thought I would let you know where the fastest one is.

I am sure this thread will be moved to its final resting place.

IMHO 172 might be a tad fast for a stock 2008 FeeJ, unless there were mods. Just sayin'

Does his buddy have a time slip or performance award to document the speed? My GPS says my bike did 181 once....

172 Indicated perhaps, not really tho 155-ish is the best i have heard.

I have personally seen 143 and backed out of it

Well yah the newer they are the faster they go right! The 2010's are planned to hit 200 or so. Motorcycle FISH STORY's. Anyone here any others recently. What ever happened to the dude that installed nitro on his FJR. Is the motor still alive??

172 actual? Possible with a VERY strong tailwind. Think Hurricane level. Don't think you could do it on a Gen I as the rev-limiter would come into play before 172 actual I do believe. Perhaps possible on a Gen II. Still would be well into redline and close to rev limiter.

Once, I hit 160 on the GPS. That was an oddity. Normally, 153-155 is top end. When I hit 160 on the gps, it was about 170 indicated, and probably around 10,500 rpm. At that rpm, not much room to go before FJR's electronic brain says, 'NO MORE'.

Was behind a slow *** cage going through a nice little set of twisties one day. Coming out of the last curve there is a nice litlle stretch of passing lane with a small down hill grade before a blind hill. No cars in sight and I knew I had time but I wanted to make sure. I was cruising along with 3rd wound fairly tight when we rounded the turn and opened up to the straight-way. So I droped 2nd. and cracked the throtle. As I was coming back into my lane I looked down and the speedo said 147 and I had just hit 4th. Can that be right? I have compared my speed to some of those speed trap signs that flash your speed at you as you go past,and they have always been right with my speed-o.

Nope; redline in 3rd gear is just above 115mph.

The original 172mph in question might be possible if you can find a way to add tons of HP, find a long and steep downhill road, and or ride with a strong enough tail wind to get you up to the rev limiter in 5th gear (9250 rpms)

At the other end of the scale I used to, on a very flat stretch of road, slow down to 25mph in 5th gear and slowly accelerate. Man what a torque monster. 160 or 170, who cares, buy a Hayabusa and do it for real.

Nothing tells it like a graph. I am sure if you took a Gen 1 and Gen2 bike and ran them flat out next to each other the end result would be about the same. The motor is basically the same. gearing a little taller on Gen2 ,Gen1 a little lighter. Except mine the 05 is still fastest and best looking!!!

I think the only way I'd get 160+ out of my FJR would be to drive it off the back ramp of a C-130 from about 10,000 feet...

When I had my CBR1000F ,,, lots of folks would ask , "How fast will it go ?"

My standard answer was " Don't know and have no intention of finding out.."

With any luck that usually ended the conversation with the people I didn't want to talk to anyway.. :yahoo:

According to Pickles, rpm wheel speed graph of doom, if Mamma Yamma would listen to us and put in a 6th gear, you'd easily reach 200mph.

Pickles, can you also graph reverse? I've always wondered how fast our FJRs can do in reverse.

My reverse gear seems to max out at about 120 SPMs (Steps Per Minute) which comes out to about 2mph.

BTW - I was on a closed course (nearly level, calm winds) with my already modified FJR tonight and my data logger shows a max of 162mph at ~8700 RPMs. I don't know what the speedo indicated, but I would estimate about 172mph based on a 6.6% speedo error I calculated at a lower speed one time. It may have possibly gone up another 1 or 2mph with some more time, but probably not. Speed is pretty accurate in the data logger as it is based on a calculation involving the 42 pulses per rotation of the ABS sensor on the rear wheel and the diameter of the tire. That would make 9000 RPMs come out to about 167mph.

A quick estimacalculation shows that I would need about 10 more ft-lbs of torque at the wheel across the high RPM range to redline the bike in 5th gear. I don't see that happening. If my continued calculations are correct, then a 10mph tail wind could also get me up to redline in 5th. That's very possible.
