Should I ride up through Yosemite and over Tioga Pass, then up 395 to Reno and surprise my dad for lunch or just stay home and watch the final round of the U.S. Open (it's golf)?

Disclaimer- Not sure how many of these poor ol' Dad has left in 'im.

Is this a trick question?

I surprised my mom on mothers day and I couldn't be more glad I did. :D

go see him. you'll be glad you did.
I concur...Toe, once his gone that's it....I wish,... I should have.....doesn't mean squat when he's gone....enjoy his company while you still can....trust me on this....you'll cherish these memories once he is gone (god forbid) cause that's all you'll have.... better that then nothing.....coulda, woulda, shouda, doesn't cut it....it's only one day....go for it....

Pretty much a consensus here Toe.

I think you should go! Not sure what it's like in your situation(?), but my family is treating me to a family soak at the hot springs!

I'm just an "old soak" who happens to ride an FJR!

Yeah, but you all are prejudiced. ;) I should go ask a lazy golfer's forum for some dissenting opinions. Of course, they usually have their fathers to thank/blame for getting them started so it would probably turn out the same.
Hey, 600 miles for lunch can't be all bad, especially since it will take me through a beautiful national park, with the option of returning the same way or taking Sonora Pass and Hwy 49 on the way home.

Sorry, gotta work Monday so no recon on the strip clubs. Why would you want to do anything but ride and hang out with all the other riders anyway? ;)

Golf...the world's worst spectator sport. Oh, wait, NASCAR...hmmm. Tough call on that.

Either way, go see dad. Seeing him now is much better than feeling guilty about NOT seeing him later on.

Take your snowmobile, Tioga Pass/Hwy 120 is still closed (snow) and will be for another 3 week. BUT, yes, go surprise dad!

Thanks for that! I read somewhere that it would be open by last weekend (6/10) so went ASS-uming.
Well, looks like 49 to 108 again! Aw shucks golly gosh darn!

Maybe I'll head back on Mt. Rose Hwy around the lake to 50 and Grant Line to 99, not sure yet. Gotta check some maps next couple of days. Suggestions welcome, but not too scenic=miles. It is a day trip after all.

Go see him and tell him to turn on the US open. Best of both worlds
Now there's a plan! I might even catch a short nap that way. BTW, what's a TiVo? ;)

I was going to suggest you check that he's going to be there first. Dumb suggestion; just do the ride.

+1 to what everybody's said about seeing the old guy although no matter what you do this weekend, someday you'll wish you'd done more.

Toe: My dad past away two years after he retired with that terrible stuff (cancer 27 yrs. ago ) he never had a chance to enjoy life in retirement. Me I wish he were here even it was wipping up oat meal off he shirt because he couldnt. You figure what is best . If you go tell your dad to have a happy fathers day from weekend rider.

Seems like it depends on your relationship now and while you were growing up. If childhood with him bring back fond memories, there is no decision – spend as much time with him while you can.

If, on the other hand, the memories were negative and have not changed for the better… Watching golf still seems as exciting as watching grass grow. But, then, that’s just my opinion (and I hate golf).
