I am counting down my favorite roads in the Northeast U.S. over at New England Riders. I am down to #18 so far. How many have you ridden? The countdown with photos and videos can be found at: https://forums.delphiforums.com/newenglandrider/messages/?msg=23440.1

Favorite Northeast U.S. Roads
All roads with maps and gps files can be found on the NER Best Of the NorthEast (BONE) website: (https://www.newenglandriders.org/BestOfNewEngland/BestOfNewEngland.htm)

Road conditions, especially in northern New England, can change drastically from season to season - ride carefully.

Great list Ed. I've ridden many of them. I have a couple more that I think are worthy of being on that list:

Rt 113 (Evans Notch; north from east end of Hurricane Mtn Road in S. Chatham NH. Ends up intersecting route 2, west of Bethel ME.

Rt 17 from Mexico ME to Rangely ME

Rt 27 from Carabassett ME to Colburn Gore ME

Middlebury Gap (Rt 125) in southern Green Mountains, VT

You will like them!

The problems with all of our beloved New England motorcycle roads is they are either too short, or else torn to **** every third year by old man winter. The trick, as many of you (including Easy Ed) already know it piecing together a great day ride, or loop, from all of the patches of good roads.

It's kind of like quilting (not that I really know all that much about that) which is surely a New England tradition. You take a few scraps of good roads and sew them together to make something really valuable. Only problem is the roads that were good recently, may not be so great in a few years. The views are the same, but you have trouble appreciating the views when you are dodging potholes. ;)

yeah, last time I rode the Kancamagus it was like riding between railroad tracks...meebee better now ?

Some of the "Kanc" has been repaved recently but a fair amount is still in pretty bad shape. That ride is more about the views than the roads and unless you pick your riding times carefully, you may end out in a Harley (or RV) parade anyway. Early morning is the best time. Despite the road condition and the traffic, I manage to ride this highway (#9 in the above list) any time I am in the area - at least a couple of times per season). I do the Bear Notch Road while I'm at it!

I have ridden many of the roads Ed posted and I will use the list to add some routes to my next New England excursion(s). I'm sure that most (or all) of these are listed on the NER website but it might be nice to have links to the Google maps posted here. I see that the "Best of New England" has been changed to the "Best of the Northeast". Great to see the geographical expansion into other regions but miss the "BONE" acronym.

FJReady mentioned Rt. 113 (Evans Notch). I would add it to the list EXCEPT for the absolutely awful condition; at least the last time I was on it!

Great list!

East side is still pretty rough. West side of the pass is better. Best part of the Kank for motorcycle riding is west of I93, 'tween the Woods (Woodstock to Woodsville). Much less tourist traffic and great curvy roads. Not as much elevation as the more heavily traveled part east of I93, but more funner IMO.

App Gap (VT Rt 17) is the same in reverse. East side is good and West side is all torn up.

I agree w Tracey as topspot or close to it, but the length of it may only give it a "just okay" rating in a nationwide poll. Sad we have so little and so short of fun roads here in the N/E.

I'm also glad to see a few of my PA roads sprouting close to the top. We enjoy them very much during my Penn-Run Meet on Memorial Day Wknd.

As always, thanks Ed for all your work!

I think the roads in the NE are great. There are plenty of roads that, when combine into a single ride, will keep a smile on my face all day. It is difficult to put them on a list like this one because most are not a single road, but a long day of many roads. Even New Jersey has some good riding in the north counties.

My gripe about riding in the NE is about the population. There are more people, which means more cars and more driveways, than in many other motorcycle friendly places. Drivers are more likely to get upset when you pass them and there seem to be a lot more LEOs.

+1 - That is why when we leave the garage the front wheel is usually pointed either north or west of here. South or east = increased population = less fun.
