I've been waiting for a package that was sent from the west coast last Monday... except it turned out that Fed Ex Home Delivery didn't bother to pick it up until Tuesday afternoon. Then their tracking info said all week that it would be delivered on Saturday, but Saturday came and went with no delivery. I called in the middle of the day on Saturday, and they assured me that it would be delivered. Since it needed a signature, I hung around all day, but it never showed up. This morning (Monday), I called again. They informed me that Fed Ex Home Delivery is closed on Mondays, so they would check on my package on Tuesday.

If you are considering using Fed Ex Home Delivery as a means of shipping stuff, you might want to know about this idea that they are closed on Mondays. I did not realize this when I asked for this method of shipping. I would not ask for it again if one or more Mondays were likely to be included in the delivery period. :angry03:

that sucks rotten eggs...

between this and UPS, which now uses USPS to deliver to houses for the "Ground" and "home delivery" options...

typically, the UPS/USPS doesn't require a signature...

Just sayin'

For future info, if you are happy that packages left without a signature will be safe, you can file a form with Fedex, UPS and even DHL which keeps a copy of your signature on file with them, waiving the requirement for you to physically sign for each package.

Obviously there is a section on the form releasing them from liability should your package be stolen, or tampered with after delivery.

I set this up a few years ago, and have never had to wait by the door since, nor have I had any delivery problems outwith the regular "delivery exceptions" that occur from time to time, like when the driver can't be bothered getting his fat *** out of the delivery truck due to heavy rain! (Yes, Fedex, your guy was caught on camera!!!).

I ordered an item from newenough.com, I think, and the salesperson was kind enough to warn me that they would ship the item the same day but, since a Monday was in the delivery period, that the item would probably not arrive until Tuesday. The package arrived on Tuesday.

Another member here shipped me something using the old-fashioned USPS from CA to AL. It was in my hands in two days.

They may not be known as the "big boys" in shipping, but I have been pleased with their service of late. There was a day when I did not have this enthusiasm for using them. I am pleased with their rates as well when compared to the others.

I ordered a sheepskin from Alaskan Leathers and they sent it to me by USPS priority mail. This had a lot farther to go than the package in question, and it showed up on the 4th day after I'd placed the order. This was a heck of a lot better service than I am getting from Fed Ex. I sent something from Tennessee to the backwoods of Maine on a Friday a week or two ago, and it was in the guy's mail box on the following Monday. USPS can be quite efficient.

For me, over time Fed-Ex has been the best. I missed a paycheck one day because UPS did not deliver in the snow, but the Fed-Ex guy showed up. That said, I also spent a Monday waiting for a package sent "Home Delivery" because I never saw anything about them being closed on Mondays. It should be called "Home Delivery except on Mondays" :assassin:

This story had a happy ending, although I'm still glad to now know that they are closed formally on Mondays.

I called Fed Ex this morning, and as I mentioned in the original post they told me about the Monday closed policy.

I did not post above that I had a "friendly chat" with the representative. No threats... just clear customer unhappiness.

I was eating lunch at a local Chinese buffet when the Operations Manager of the local Fed Ex Home Delivery called me. He had found my package and would bring it to the restaurant and give it to me.

And he did. It turned out that the package had been "held up" because the person who sent it had made an error in one of the digits of the street address.... sigh....

So I'm not happy about the Monday closed policy, but I thought that the Operations Manager went out of his way on a day when they are supposedly closed to help me out.

On the even brighter side, and even more happiness to the ending, the seat is a Sargent seat for my FJR1300AE, and I took a 230 mile ride this afternoon. It represents a GREAT improvement for my boney, overly large arse... I would rate it equal to the second best seat I've had before (a Corbin on an ST1100). It is not as good as the best seat I've had before (a Corbin on a Suzuki DL1000), but its very good. The seat will not be the limiting factor in how many miles can be racked up now that the Sargent is installed.

Be careful on signing those relase forms though. I signed one with UPS one time and it applies not only to that package but future ones as well....even left them on my doorsteps after I moved to a new place. When I called UPS about it they said they require written authorization to turn it off too.

Same problem on a package EXCEPT when Monday came one of the secretaries came in my office in the afternoon carrying a FedEX package. I guess my several calls and my general displeasure may have gotten my package on a general delivery truck. Either way I think the original Pony Express would have gotten it to me quicker. I wish Internet companies explained their shipping methods a little better. My problem was that I have most packages delivered to my office because I am not home during the day "go figure". They sent it home delivery and when it was held up FedEx tried to do a Saturday delivery at 7:00 am. Our company does not open on the weekends until 8:00. So no package and I was really looking forward to using my new tank bag over that weekend.
