Fenda Extenda

Okay, after reading about using ABS glue to attach the extender instead of screws I thought "Why not?". So down to the hardware store, small can of black abs glue and back to the garage. Clean the fender and extender, wipe down both parts with rubbing alcohol, lay on a healthy portion of glue to the extender, grab hold of the parts for about 3-4 minutes and laid it aside. Change the oil, filter & final drive lube (600 mile), come back to the fender and it's already feeling solid. Reinstall the fender and now some 24 hours later I am ready to get off this computer and road test the job.

Keep yer eyes on it, to make sure it don't start coming loose. Have seen a few stories posted where the glue didn't hold. But yet it seemed to work fine for others. Like any adhesive job, it probably depends on cleanliness of the parts, proper surface prep and allowing the adhesive to set according to instructions before using.

Same here, ABS glue is working very well and I have had no problems with the extenda staying on, so far.

Mine is "glued and screwed". After doing the intial glue job, I put in a couple of tiny self-tapping screws for insurance.

I also used the ABS glue and it held ok until about 10,000 mi., then it started to break loose on the edges and got worse to the point that I ripped it off and re-glued it. This time I skuffed up both pieces with coarse sandpaper and used three spring clamps and let it set overnite. I'm sure that it will hold. The first time I only held it together by hand for 10 min.

I too black ABS cemented the thing and noticed while I was cleaning it that I'd push on it and get the slight flex sensation that it was coming loose. Not wanting to take the whole mess off I tood some and dripped it in the edges and it's tight again.

At least it isn't a solid on or pop off situation.

I haven't had any trouble with mine. Used ABS cement, and 2 sets of hand pressure and some clamps (clamps for the edges, fingers/hands for the middle where the curves prevented a good clamp).

Glue and Go! :lol: Use some small Irwin clamps during the curing stage and you are golden. It ain't movin! Good Luck! B)

Nice little 65 mile jaunt to test the extenda, up to 100 a couple of times, cruised at 80 mostly. I'll keep a close eye on it and if it comes loose I'll take it back off and use the suggestion of roughing it with sandpaper and try again. Oh almost forgot, to seal the "gap" on the inside of the fender where the top of the extenda and the fender meet I layed in a bead of silicon to prevent water and fine grit from running down between the two pieces.

I used "Gorilla glue" about 5500 miles ago. Sanded and clamped. The glue expands a bit..no problem...just wiped off the excess....still solid (dontchaluvtheclickablesmiles!)

I used Plastic Weld about 8000 miles ago. I'm one of the fuckwits that lost the FE with ABS black glue. I think I prepped everything OK, but didn't use enough glue, and let it get too dry before mating the parts. Live and learn...

6--3/8 self locking nuts and bolts with loctite.

Not really... ABS cement and holding at 8k.

I used Goop. Etched X marks in both fender and extenda, followed by some sanding to roughen up the rest. Clamped it overnight to cure. 725 miles and going strong.

Yeah, yeah, I know, 725 miles ain't diddly. But I feeeeeeel like it will go longer! Hahaha.

I used JB Weld with a 24 hr. cure time and it's holding great.

I used G/G too. Stuff is AMAZING! Just don't get it on your hands--worse than Crazy Glue!

I used two part epoxies and let it set for 24 hours, it's been on for over a year and no issues.

I assume you guys removed the foam adhesive strips that come on the Fenda Extenda before installing w/ glue? Correct?
