OK - my first farkle attempt. (say that five times quickly after a six pack of Elephant !!)

The FJR FendaExtenda does not fit - the changes to the lower leading edge of the fairing and the radiator face (general area) no longer allows room for the extender.

Here's the view with the front wheel facing front: (no extenda)

I'm holding the FendaExtenda into place - the bottom edge of the FE is actually resting on the front edge of the lower fairing. Were it to be installed, it would catch on the fairing every time the forks turn. (And yes, I made sure I had it all the way up to the inset line - you should have heard me cussin at it!)

I don't remember the bike at the show being this close in tolerance - is it possible that they made additional changes from the show bikes, improving this point ?

I'll be posting the FendaExtenda for sale on the correct part of the forum if anyone is interested.

I just took a level and a tape measure and did some "rough" measurements on my '05.

I placed the level even with the centerline of the front axle. The bottom of the rear of the fender is roughly 3 1/2" above the center of the axle, the measurement to the bottom of the Fenda Extenda is 1 " below the center of the front axle.

Ground to bottom of extender is 8", ground to bottom of fender is 13 1/2".

What is the meassurement of the new ('06) fender? Is it possible that Yamaha redesigned the front fender to approximate the '03-'05 fender w/ extender attached, thereby eliminating the need for the aftermarket extender? Or perhaps you'll have to wait until the aftermarket catches up to the '06.

Groo,

That would work, but the front of the fairing is solid for 10.5 inches up to the bottom of the radiator. Which has it's own guard on the 06. I can't tell, but I think the rear of the front fender is longer - so it already extends lower. Not sure, but I think this might be the case.

A concern would be what happens during fork compression - would it be forced, or jammed into the front fairing face - I don't know. And, if you trimmed it enough to clear - how much of it would remain? Trimming is a distinct possibility. I would imagine that an 06 version will soon be on the market. I'd give it a try, but my chainsaw needs a lube right now, and I'm too busy riding.....

Maybe there's an 06 owner out there right now, dremel tool in hand, making it work ... and time will tell.

MadMike2, I'm going to bed - gotta get up early -

I'll take these same measurements tomorrow - and post them up. I just went to the garage and eyeballed it with a level- and some of the measurements appear to be different. I'll be more specific tomorrow.

Yes, perhaps Pyramid (or whoever really makes the things) will come up with an '06 specific extenda. In the mean time, if the contour of the Fenda matches the fender where it mates, I'd be inclined to just cut the thing off at the level with the chin so that it doesn't hit.... Is that area of the '06 fender the same shape as previous models for a perfect fit of the Fenda?

When the forks compress, wouldn't the fairing move only very slightly toward the Fenda? How much extra clearance would you need? 1/4 inch?

If you (they) have to tuck the lower edge of the Fenda toward the tire for clearance from the fairing, won't that induce a sort of steep angle that would result in the fenda/fender catching less water/debris? Sounds like that would reduce the effectiveness of the entire fender, and probably allow more stuff to blow by the Fenda anyway? So it would seem that moving the Fenda closer to the tire would not be an effective remedy to the problem.

Just talking out my, uh, hat here.

For now, if you are just worried about stone chips on your ‘06 you could always cut-out a V-shape from a clear adhesive 3M sheet and place it behind the wheel/radiator area. I did this on my ‘05 in addition to my installed Fender Extenda. The ‘06 FJRs are already covered with a factory radiator guard, so no worries there. Enjoy the new ride!

MadMike,

I've just returned from the garage, tape measure and level in hand. Using the centerline of the front axle, center (lowest part of fender) bike on centerstand here are my findings:

End of the fender is 3" above axle centerline.

Ground to bottom of fender is 13"

And here's a measurement that I'll ask you to check on yours - the bottom center leading edge of the fairing to the tread of the tire - 1.25 inches. I think this is where the major difference is. But not having an earlier model sitting side by side it's difficult.

I'll have a discussion with bigdolma at work tomorrow and see if I can visit him to do a major measurement comparison - perhaps Sunday afternoon. Having them side by side would be a hoot !!

How far is the bottom of the V of the fairing to the bottom of the fender with the bike on the side stand? Wonder what THAT difference is, between the model years?

Hope you guys get this all figgered out for me B4 my AE arrives. GIT ON IT! :D

Uh Oh. Pressure's on.

I'm gonna go ride ......

I ran the tapemeasure along the bottom fo the fairing until the angled tab hit the tire: 1 1/2". But the way I took the measurement actually is at a slight "down" angle so the measurement could be off. If you put a square on thefloor so that the measurement was at the farthes rear part of the tire, it might be 1 1/4".

It'll be interesting to comapre the 2 different year models. The fairings are redesignes, so there could be many "slight" variances.
