Due to the seeming popularity of "Sidestand or Centerstand on Ferryboat" thread (elsewhere on forum) I thought I'd post some of the little ferrys I've been on. Searching out little ferries can be a fine theme for ride; some of these may be near you; you may know about some and can tell others; and (sadly) some go away with time -- like the one crossing the Missouri R. at Niobrara NE.

Coastal Ferries are popular (and often needed), have great accommodations, and are memorable experiences. But, there are other *Ferry Opportunities*, here's some:

Cross the Ohio R. from KY to Cave-in-Rock IL

Cross the Kentucky R. south of Lexington KY

Cross the Tennessee R. north of Chattanooga TN

Cross the Alabama R. nr. US43 / US87

Cross the Wisconsin R. at Merrimac WI

Cross the Mississippi R. from IA at Cassville WI

Cross the Red Deer R. between Drumheller and Red Deer AB

Cross the Missouri R. (several places), Montana, E./S.E. of US87

Cross the Columbia R. & Duncan R. (interior) B.C.

....others?

(note to admins: this post may be better posted in a different part of the forum?)

Nice pic Axeman, thanks. Rode the Orient Point Fy many times while I was 'on the boats' in New London -- as a more scenic/different alternative to to I-95/similar to NYC and beyond. Quite a current thru there sometimes, IIRC?

Hmm, Ferries you say...

Off the back after leaving Port Hardy, Vancouver Island, B.C. and heading for Prince Rupert, B.C.

The two ferries along the North Carolina outer banks....

Took the ferry to Prince Edward Island before there was a bridge there.

The ferry from Nova Scotia to Newfoundland. One is an 8 hour ride between Nova Scotia and the western end of Newfoundland and the other is a 24 hour ride between NS and St. Johns (actually Argentia) on the eastern end of NF.

On the great lakes there are many ferries to take. One of the small ones is to Drummond Island.

Crossed the river Shannon from Killimer to Tarbert in Ireland. There were bikes, a gorgeous view, clear skies and my future wife beside me............ Good times. But I remember wishing I had a bike rather than a rental car.
