When I change my regular oil and filter I go to Walmart and buy Shell Rotella Synthetic oil and a Walmart Super Tech Filter. I just noticed that they also carry "Super Tech Gear Lubricant SAE 80W-90 GL-5" is this ok to use for the FJR's final drive fluid? Its much less expensive than the "brand" names and I would think it should be ok any opinions?

For your reading pleasure, from our friends at Google: final drive fluid site:fjrforum.com

And THIS THREAD that is now active.

You are probably going to find that most people are using Yamalube, Mobil 1, Amsoil or the synthetic of their choice.

In the end, its your bike. I'd think that if you change it regularly, and maybe a bit short of the recommended mileage/time, that brand would keep the bearings lubricated.

I use OEM lube. After spending this much money on a motorcycle I intend to keep for a looong time, its only a few dollars extra in the maintenance budget.

You're supposed to change that!

Seriously, I'm with Madmike: I spent a lot on my bike and intend to keep it a while. I know damn well that it's complete overkill, but I use the $30/pint gear lube that Yamaha recommends for the FJR. At least I know I'm well protected at "prolonged speeds in excess of 90 mph" :D
