I decided I was going to do one of these rides after contemplating it for over a year.

I had the time and needed to visit my mom & dad in Florida. So dumdass me picks the farthest point in Florida.KeyWest was my turn around destination point from just north of Atlanta,Ga. About an 850 mile run.

I left about 4:00 a.m. and made pretty good time for the first 8 hours or so and calculated around 75mph.Got down to US 1 and really put a dent in my averages.

All the towns had 45 mph speed limits and 5 or 6 cops sitting around waiting to give out fast driver awards.

I didn't receive any of those but I blew 7 hours going down there and back for 300 miles, very stupid on my part. Anyway my plan was to get to my brothers house in Melbourne and I was feeling pretty good after a wonderful dinner at wendy's in marathon, fla. and decided to go for it.

I ran into a nice rainstorm about 30 miles from his house which put me in total pain but new I'd finish up my goal, which ended up at app.21 hours and 1235 miles.

If I'd planned my route better I beleive I could have ridden 1500 miles in the same time span.

I woke up with plans to get the BB but it was still raining and to be honest,I just said **** it.

Next spring I'll probably do another ride wth my wife who wants to do a SSK1.

I had fun and experienced a taste of LD riding.I salute you fellows that do this on a regular basis.

It is very tough mentally as well as the physical part.I'm glad I did it.

TWN,Orangevalle,Skyway,& Bluestreak, you guys inspired me, thanks.

Excellent, just be aware they are SERIOUSLY behind in getting the route documented.

Trimmantom, first congratulations on your ride and it's awesome that other forum members inspired you to do this. :clapping:

My first SS1k was 2-up with wifey during the 2005 Cal-24 and we had a blast!

I understand this type of riding is not for the masses, but I think it's good for everyone to at least attempt a SS1K. It just puts your mind into a mode of focus of preparation/anticipation that few other rideouts can offer.

It will teach you something new about yourself and change any previous conception of distance and time, all from the seat of a motorcycle. It has opened my mind to possibilities that I had never thought about before and as an added bonus has taken me places I probably wouldn't have ridden to just for the sake of it. I have also met some great folks as a result, good times for sure.

Good luck on your next ride. :dribble:

Excellent job trimmantom! To get down to the Key West and back in your time is quite an accomplishment. There's no doubt with better routing you could have gone 1500 miles in 24 hours. I wouldn't refer to your route as stupid, I'd say it was...ummmm challenging. :)

For those who haven't been to the keys, highway 1 is notorious for speed enforcement. I rode to Key West last spring and counted over 40 LEO's in the 100 miles between Key Largo and Key West. I'm sure my radar detectors life span was shortened.

Welcome to the club!
