Well, after almost two years on the forum and wanting an FJR it finally happened.

I signed the paperwork tonight and if all goes well I will pick it up tommorrow night. :yahoo:

I was not looking to purchase an AE but lately the 08-09 A's are $1000.00 to $3000.00 more than the AE. The AE also gets good reviews from owners on the forum.

I did test ride it for a few miles and shifting is almost effortless. I will have to work on getting smooth but that will come in time. The only thing that felt a little strange was stopping without the clutch lever. Instinct tells me I need to pull on the lever or it will keep going. Taking off was not bad, I just have to remember not to blip the throttle in anticipation of releasing the cluth. I figure if I did ok in thier gravel parking lot I should be fine.

Much, much, much more torque than my 06 Concours.

I asked about the ignition switch and it is the new one per the dealer, the body caps, soft bags and third lock were all present. I looked at the bag latch screws and no loctite is visible from above or below. Should I be able to see residue?

The sales guy wanted to sell it so bad he did not even ask for my liscence before handing me the keys for a test ride.

Apparently Yamaha had a boat load of 08 AE's left from inventory and I think dealer returnes from thoses going out of business. If your in the market for an AE now is the time to buy in my opinion.

For reference, here is what I got;

Bike $9900.00

Doc Fee $30.00

WI Tax at 5.5% $544.50

Liscence $96.68

OTD total $10,571.18

If I can get plans made I will see some of you at CFO.

I want to say thanks to the forum owners and and members for providing a place with such a vast amount of information.

Sorry it's a little long winded, guess I'm a little exited about my new ride. :drinks:

Welcome to the forum!! Now get off the computer and put some miles on that bad boy before winter sets in!!

Woodman,

Welcome to the Forum and Congrats on your new bike. Good choice! The AE is Sweeeet! You will stop honking the horn while trying to downshift in no time.

Man-O-Man! When I hear about the prices you Newbies are paying, it makes me eat my heart out. I paid full price, But, worth every penny. If you've been

lurking around here for 2 years, you know what a great place this is. Listen to Bogus and go ride!! Winter is around the corner. I wouldn't know anything about

that cause winter is PRIMO riding season in West Palm Beach!! :yahoo:

ENJOY!

Congrats! Picked up my 08 AE in Early April. I absolutely love it. My next bike will also have the trigger shifter. Awesome setup. I have 5500 miles on her and am going away for a 4 day tour soon. Does yours knock a little during a cold start? Mine does, but still haven't seen the absolute fix here on the forum on the threads I've read. Runs perfectly after a minute or so of warm up.

Enjoy that sweet bike. Now it's time to farkle and ride....

Thanks for the congrats.

I pck it up in a couple hours.

FJRPittsbugh, I only rode it a few miles but I did not notice any knock in the showroom or when it was outside.

Welcome from Southern SoCal.

you got a smokin deal too boot. I'd like to know how you like the AE after riding a while. I almost got one last may, but opted for the A

Smooth sailing to ya...

Welcome You will love it. I bought mine from Port Washington Yamaha three years ago. You live in a beautiful area to ride that for seven months of the year. Taking a ride up to Baraboo area tomorrow. Have fun.

Welcome from Oregon. I remember how excited I was the day I picked up my new 2007. Almost as exciting as my first fast run through some slow twisties following three Ducatis. That was a blast and they couldn't lose me. Have fun.

I just returned from picking her up. 45 miles home is all but I love the shifting. I found to be smooth I just need to shift and not focus so much on the throttle position. It really does operate extremely well. I need to do some series suspesion tuning. Felt like a fat pig in mud in turns. I am guessing some of it will take care of itself when the tires are scrubbed in more but it was really unsettling. I am 6'2" and 265 so I am guessing I need to stiffen this baby up quite a bit. My 06 concous was the same when I got it but a few pounds in the rear shock and tightening up the forks took care of. Will do the same with FJR.

I should work this weekend and get caught up. Wait, I just talked to my boss. I said I don't have to work and can go riding. :clapping:

Funny you should mention Port Washington. A couple weeks ago that dealer had two 08 AE's a couple days apart for $9999.99. I missed both of them within hours. I think somebody on the forum bought one of them.

Baraboo, only 125 miles. hmmmmmm.

You might check your tire pressures too. At least 40 in the front and 42 in rear. The dealers never seem to check air pressures.

Before test riding the bike yesterday I noticed the front tire looked low during my pre-ride inspection. They were checked then and brought to 39 front 42 rear per the sticker. They were checked again tonight before I left. I will bump the front up a bit but it was actually the rear that was squirly. I think most of it is soft suspension settings.

This dealer seems to know the FJR pretty well. They are the ones that did a pre-delivery inspection and noticed the tool kit was missing. Apparently this is an issue with many bikes they receive from Yamaha. Not just the FJR. Upon request they also loosened and retorqued the oil drain bolt and we adjusted the bars all the back. They offered to ship the tool kit but I told them I will pick it up. I'm guessing I shouldn't put on more than 300 miles in the northwoods going to get it. hehe.

Apparently the owner of the dealership is an FJR fan and brings in a unit every year to ride himself. I mean, use as a demo.

Another thing I noticed. The two tone silver and grey of the FJR is almost identical to my F150. Hope I won't need it but I already have touch-up paint.

I could really sit here all night and type all the things popping into my head. But then that would give BUST a reason to call me an ODOT.

The suspension is setup for a 12 yr old girl. You will definately need to adjust it.

Before you forget, go locktite your bag's lock screws. You WILL regret it if you dont.
