Fine, I'm an idiot. Where do these connectors go?

I feel like an ass. I owned a 2005 for 5 years and now I'm working on RH's 2004 and I've got two connectors that don't seem to connect anywhere and that doesn't seem right.

So I ripped off the fairings and the gauge package and I still can't find anything amiss. The hi-beam light doesn't work, but it never did.

WHAT THE HELL AM i MISSING?

Pictures of my errant connectors below. One in the left top engine bay, one in the lower left (same harness as the fuse box and the left turn signal)

Be gentle, it ain't Friday. Tell me what I cannot figure out on my own. Thanks, Baz

They don't join together, do they?

Sorry, I'm not much help. I'm sure someone will be along with the answer for you.

First one (white one) is from the PAIR solenoid. Looks like Wynpro plates are installed so that one truly isn't needed.

Second one looks like it's outside the engine compartment in the fairing, possibly the glovebox solenoid.

I just took my glove box solenoid off on my 05 this week as I'm repairing a bunch of plastic damage from my mishap at EOM back in October. I"ll take a picture of it as soon as it gets light out and post it up.

Below is the pic of the plug for the glovebox solenoid. It attaches (vertically from the bottom and pointing up) to the right side vertical face of the glovebox.

Now, let's back back to the real issue you've been having. I think you summed it up pretty well with the first five words of your post.

Good luck with your project. By the way, exactly what are you doing with the bike?

Yeah, just remember the favor next time one of us are in the same boat and we need yer advice. I had to go out to the workshop twice this morning as for some dumb reason, the pictures I took disappeared out of the camera the first time. Glad we were able to help. By the way, you didn't answer my question. Just what ARE you doing to the bike you're working on?

LOL, no, this doesn't qualify you as an idiot. Forgetful, yes, idiot no.

But it makes me ponder... What truly would have qualified as 'idiot' in this example? Perhaps 'idiot' would be proven if one were to have not asked "Where do these connectors go?", or by trying to force-fit the connectors together, or by modifying the wiring because "obviously Yammie made a mistake at the factory".

Huh, Let's see.

Had the sucker shipped from Sunny Florida to cold, snow covered Philadelphia. Disassembled the fairings, removed and re-lamped the gauges, remove the headlights and the front stay. Cleaned the bike, and cleaned it again, and one more time just for good luck. Replaced seals and "o" rings in the waterpump. Drained the fuel tank and added copious amounts of SeaFoam along with fresh fuel. Bought a replacement stay, and a windshield arm, and a windshield, and a "W" to hold the windshield. Bought some plastics that I didn't already own and jb welded everything else. Oh, and I got rid of the car tire and went back to a PR2 on the rear. Haven't replaced the front yet, but I have to very soon.

Had my buddy not seen those two connectors (freaked-out) and started tearing the fairings apart again. I'd be closer to done. Now I need to re-weld the plastics, throw it back together (somewhat) and then look to more work. Still needs a coolant flush, fork oil change, valve check, and a cct check.

Since I love farkeling a bike, upgrades include FZ1 Mirrors, Grip Heaters, PC8 Fuse box and home-made harness, Custom leather Corbin with sheepskin pad, grip covers, new brakes Front & Rear, replaced clutch master cylinder, bleed brakes and clutch, change spark plugs, Frame Sliders, New Battery, saddle bag liners, and new foot pegs.

She's still in pieces all over my garage, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My $1000 bargain has cost me a little over $2600 to date and still counting. But how can you put a price on the fun I'm having? That's where we're at....

Don't believe for a second that we didn't think that. Huh...I wonder if these two fit together, doesn't really look it, but I wonder......It feels like the "Two Stooges Garage - fix it till you break it"

Wow, you got cher hands full. Thanks for the update on what sounds like a major project. Good luck my friend. You were talking about replacing the stay. I'm looking at mine hoping that it can be straightened. Replacing it doesn't seem to be an option as they are rather rare. Thanks to Tony (101stpathfinder) I will have the fairing pieces I'm gonna need, but I haven't begun fitting my disassembled tupperware back together yet. I am hoping my twisted stay can be massaged back into shape without too much fuss.

Have a great day.

Well Gary, I wasn't aware you had a little mishap at EOM. I must have missed the report.

Hope all is well,

Yeah, I fall-ed down and go-ed boom at EOM. It was a low speed (less than 10 mph) rear end slide out due to a failed rear ABS. My rear brake is like a giant spring, it has very little "feel." It works, but without the ABS, is best left UNused during cornering. Lesson learned. All I got out of it was a sore hip and a little scuff on my knuckle, but the bike got some damage. Coulda been much worse. Now I'm-a-fixin' the bike. Worst part is the front stay that took most of the hit through the mirror stalk. My Clearwater light was attached to it and was shoved up and back by the impact... maybe 1/2 inch. This upper fairing piece is toast, the rest of the damage is just scratches on lower panel and pannier. Ha... after digging all the gravel out of it, the Clearwater still works fine. They are well built.
