Just a little curious here.

Theres a particular steep graded RR crossing out in the sticks here in IL that I got up the guts to cross at about 60 on my Nighthawk years ago. Did it a few times and it was F'n scary. The bike tracked quite nice though. Don't know how much air I got. Bike never showed any flaws afterward. Anyone ever get some air on the FJR?... and crash stories do not count... unless the jump was a success but ended in a crash.

Ready Set Go.

I got about 2 or 3 inches once going off a curb. I was able to keep the bike up and stable after, so I guess it was a success. That counts, right? :)

Seriously though, there is a hill with an abrupt plateau here that I took my Bandit over at about 40 and felt both wheels leave the ground. I wasn't comfortable enough to want to do that again on my bike. Someone else's, sure, why not?!

Not on purpose, but caught a little air after hitting a possum
Not an FJR but I jumped my old 750 Suzuki about 10 feet. It hit REAL hard everytime and I only kept doing it because I was an idiot. That was distance, not height, btw.

Once as a teenager visiting my uncle (with my dad) at Paris Island.

I was out with my cousin and some young ladies traveling rather quickly in my pops 5.0 Mustang. A sign said RR Xing ahead. I asked my cousin if it was a smooth crossing, he said yes. Needless to say they were not smooth (at that speed anyway 90 or so) We did a "Dukes of Hazzard" with the stang. I am pretty sure all 4 tires left the ground for a few feet at least. At about 1 a.m. sparks from an undercarraige show very brightly.

It was on a road to a ferry crossing of the Cheasapeak IIRC.

I came clean with my folks about 3 years after they sold the car, otherwise I would have gotten blamed for everything that ever went wrong with it. Luckily it ended up being a good car.

Thank goodness cyoungmo, wasn't around then. If he had past me at 130, he would've been in the stratosphere

Actually,

on the last ride I did with Tstaff et al we wend down some hell'a cool road in OH, 555 up to Zanesville. I am pretty sure everyone on that ride caught air more than once. That road is a roller coster!!

Note to Admins: We need a new topic section called: IWTBDP'd. It should only appear on Fridays.

Fencer, tell us that band camp story, while you're at it.

This from the man who is one of the riders named (W/ Mr. Smooth, himself) in a story legend about a certain, er..uhm..speedy ride on a highway toward Benton.....

JRD14 told me about that road at EOM, but described it as "not very technical, mostly sweepers". It sounded worth trying, so I hit it on my way home. It really felt like I caught air on several hills, but there was only moderate "touchdown suspension compression" so I'm not positive I left the ground. And I was alone, so there's no second pair of eyes. Still, very exciting - epsecially when you're trying to scrub off speed in a hurry for a 90 degree left-hander just over the crest of the hill!

Chris

p.s I've ridden dirt bikes, mountain bikes, and skis/snowboards most of my life, so I know/love the feeling of defying gravity.

Well in my younger (STUPID!) days on my 83' GS750E.........................

To make a long story short(er)...........

At a buddy's house tokin' & drinkin' I was ready to leave and some squids were running up and down the street catching air over the RR tracks next door on their RDs so I decided to shut them down.

On my built 83' GS750E I steadied my speed at 55 and I caught over 5' of air.

The RDs were quiet after that. :yahoo: :D

I've never been to Benton and I've never heard of this Mr. Smooth. Really. Honest. My attorney told me to say so. :)

One of my routine circuits has an upward right bend with a whoop-d-du at the end of the bend. I've learned that at about 80MPH (speed limit is 40) I can get both wheels airborn about 3". If I'm accelerating too hard the front wheel climbs up and I can ride it out a bit longer. I am still leaned over a little as well. Bike remains stable and miles of smiles continue.

There are other locations for this too where I live, but that one has the smoothest road.

There's a small yet steep bridge that goes over a set of RR tracks that I cross every day. 2nd gear with moderate throttle sends the Feejer up in the air easily with a nice smooth landing on the down side. The bike remains as stable as can be.

I know it creeps me out when you see that crest and the road dissappears...and when you see it again its not going in the same direction as it was when you lost contact with the earth. the only thing i dont like about that road.

A guy I ride with up in WA doing a covered bridge in southern OR on a K1200S

(not sure exactly where as I did not do this trip with them, but about ... "on the way out to McKenzie Hwy for Aufderheide Pass ... When we got to the bottom of the pass we stopped for a breather at the covered bridge")
