First ride on my VTX 1800 Since I got my FJR

Well I have had my FJR for a few weeks now, and I haven't ridden my VTX 1800 Since.

So today I decided that I would take the X out for a spin. I invited my friend Joey along.

He has been wanting to ride my FJR, so I said Since I am going to ride the VTX, He could ride My FJR.

He also Rides a VTX.

I remember the X as being a Joy to ride, Smooth, powerful ( 40hp Nitrous shot :yahoo: ) and comfortable.

But after only a few hundered miles on the FJR, I found my X to ride like a Log wagon , handle like a tank, and other than the 145 ft lbs of torque with the NOS engaged ,Boaring.

I road it for about 70 miles and was glag to get home.

Joey loved the FJR other than the windshield not being tall enough for him ( 6' 2" )

And we both ageed that I will not put many miles on the X anymore. ( I have ridden VTX's for the past 40,000 miles, ) looks like the next 40k will be on the FJR.

Yes, the FJR spoils you in ways you never knew till you ride another motorcycle.

Had a similiar experience last weekend when I took out my R1. 300 lbs, lighter, 25 mph (no nitrous needed :dribble: ), after 100 miles,wishing for the FJR.

Gonna give it some time but, the R1 may be on the for sale block soon.

I had an 02 VTX1800 Retro before getting the FJR, And i thought that bike was the best! That was until my friend showed me his 03 FJR sitting in his garage all lonely since his Busa got all the attention... He let me take it for a spin and i was hooked from that point on! Sold the X 2 weeks later and put the Deposit down on my 2005 FJR.

I do miss that bike sometimes, But i dont regret my decision at all!

I have a similar problem, but reversed. I have a nice '04 FJR all farkled up. I just bought a new '08 Kawaskai ZX14 and I'm sorta kinda leaving the FJR in the garage. The ZX is soooooo smooth. Riding the FJR (like I did all day today) is like riding a farm tractor compared to a Ferrari (IMHO). Smooth vs. clunky. I know, I know ... apples and oranges.

Maybe Dale feels like this with his new 'Busa.

It's really hard to describe.

I got rid of my FZ1 after buying my FJR because the FJR got all the riding time and I didn't want the FZ1 just sitting in the garage collecting dust. Still, every time I took the FZ1 out for a short ride I remembered why I liked it - it out-handles, out-accelerates and out-brakes the FJR. No comparison. Now I like the FJR because of the better ergos, the storage, the better windscreen, the better wind protection with the fairing, the better gauges, etc. I can ride the FJR 4,000 miles while packing all of my stuff, having enough fuel to not worry about sparse gas stations and I can STILL have a lot of fun in the twisties...just not quite as much fun as I had on my FZ1. Oh well...one of these days I'll have enough money and space to add a couple more bikes to my stable.

I had a 05' 1800N. Everytime I got on it after having the FJR it just seemed sloppy in every area from braking, throttle input and I always knew it was a tank. What made me eventually get rid of it was the ground clearance in the twistys-grinding in every corner. She was beautiful and sure did love the open highway.

Eric - exactly, the FJR is the best all around bike I have been on too.

I too have an 02 VTX1800 C, and have been scouring this site after considering going to the FJR. I like the look of the Honda,

but ended up putting soft throw over bags and a windshield on it for more comfort and carrying capacity. I was comparing the

FJR, the Concourse, and the ST1300. It looked like the FJR was what I was looking for, but wasn't sure if I liked the looks of

it. So I went to the dealer that I have known for 25+ years to look at one of two 08's that he has.

Pictures do the Raven FJR no justice. As soon as I saw it, I think I actually started to drool a little! After more online "research"

as far as what my Hondawas worth for selling outright, or for trade in value, I went back to the dealer for another look.

He sold me the VTX new in 03,and was very pleased with the deal that he made with the trade in of my 94' Magna that had been

bought from him in 95'.

When I was back for the second time, he asked if he gave me an offer for trade in for the FJR the first time I was in. He had not,

because I didn't have the bike with me. So sight unseen, he asked a few questions about the Honda, went into his office for a few

minutes, and came back with an offer that was right about where I thought it should be, but never expected to get. I will be going

back to the dealer on Monday to put a deposit down to hold the second FJR that has never seen the showroom floor, and when the

slop on these midwestern roads dry up, they will deliver the FJR to me and pick up the VTX. Doesn't get better than that!

I thought that I would miss the VTX, but after reading several posts of former cruiser riders that went to the FJR, I know I won't

regret the decision. Sorry for the long post :blushing: but I just had to let it out to someone, and you guys seem to be a good

sounding board. Just for a plug, the dealer is in Dubuque, IA. Sindt Motor Sales. Good people to deal with.

Same as others, for the same reasons, I sold my cruiser within a few months of getting the FJR. The guy that bought my sled cruiser was tickled to death to get it (it was a chrome plated beauty) so eveybody's happy!

as long as i live where i do (the flat coast lands) and my wife loves to ride with me - i'll never get rid of my road king. however, i plan to get an FJR (or other ST) soon. i've owned cruisers and STs and while the new bike will alwyas get all the attention (for a while), neither one of them can replace the other. i.e., after time, the FJR will get boring too.

I was going to sell my Sportster when I bought the FJR, but now have thought better of it. I like the FJR for long distance, but still prefer the Sportster for quick hops around town and for local errands, etc. Most importantly, my wife doesn't like to ride on the FJR. Fortunately, I can keep both the Sporty and the FJR.

I had to chime in on this one...

I purchased my FJR in January a 2008 model and considered keeping my 2006 VTX1300C, that was until I started really riding the FJR. I sold the VTX on Friday.

Another VTX rider (1300R) considering adding an FJR to the stable. I need to sit on and test ride one here sometime shortly but the FJR is definately on my short list.
